Anybody know the significance of the (Welsh?) dragon?

Probably because the real Ivor worked for The Merioneth and Llantisilly Railway Traction Company Limited...

Photo by Bob Faulkner : Donny Carr Loco, 1st October 1967....

Use of the later style numerals on green locos a Doncaster speciality by 1967, I'm almost surprised they didn't stick double arrows on it (they did to D3940, cabside numbers over arrows).

Whilst on this thread......on 5/2/77 on a visit to Swindon Works I noted 08316 in for stripping before final disposal. The way its former depot Hamilton had renumbered it from D3386 was somewhat haphazard! The '08' was in later numerals but spaced out, the '31' was in earlier block serif but spaced correctly, and the final '6' was in the later style but misaligned upwards. I also recall that the data panel had been applied to the middle of the cabside arrow logo! I have no idea what it looked like on the other side. It must have run like this for nearly 3 years but I have yet to find a photo, do any exist? Finishing a model like this would suggest barrel-scraping in the transfer department and careless application, but that's how it was in reality!!

499 still plying it trade on Canton all these years later, I heard a rumour when EWS moved out of Canton they basically left 499, and a few demic 37s. Pullmans asked EWS for their removal but failed to do so, in the end Pullmans scraped the 37s and kept 499 as a pilot.

BEN.BUCKI_KWVR_08266_Haworth_10.7_14.JPG.bf22727d72910d0989b3e6fc440ba712.JPG

I used to have a better side-on shot of this loco somewhere, but this will do for now- I dug this photo out recently when finding some of my old pics for the KWVR archive.  It's the Haworth pilot 08266 back in July 2014.  It's wearing slightly-faded BR green, but with double-arrows on the footplate boxes.  It wasn't long after this shot that the loco was repainted into Railfreight triple-grey, just after the arrival of cut-cab 08993.
