With the demise of the 08 shunters in use on the national network(see other thread on the subject) we look back to happier times in 1979

All 3 photos ideal reference for those wanting to weather their shunters.

Hi

I'm really curious. What is the story behind the 08 on the isolated track "D3167 (08102) - Lincoln Central, 3rd June 1989" please?

It had a fairly long association with Lincoln (or at least it felt like it - in actual fact, I think it was from Donny originally), so when it was withdrawn, it was bought by the City Council & 'stuffed & mounted' on a section of display track between the High Street signal box & (the then) Platform 5 of the station. An ex-BR Ruston 165DE - latterly Class 97/6 97650/PWM650 - was similarly treated outside the old steam shed at East Holmes.

It stayed there for quite a while before being moved to the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway at Ludborough (albeit still owned by Lincoln City Council), where it's been restored to running condition (the Ruston ended-up there, too, I believe).

Thanks very much for the information. I have lived near Lincoln for the last 10 years but was not aware this part of local railway history. Can you give any approximate indication of dates that it was on display please?

Have family living near Ludborough and went to see the Lincs Wolds railway but it was shut on the day I went. Will be travelling there in a couple of hours but won't have time to go and see this time but will visit again sometime in future.

Thanks for the info.

I'm pretty sure I have a newspaper clipping from the time it was 'installed' showing it being craned onto the short section of track, but I can't lay my hands on it at the moment. I think it was withdrawn in 1988, so probably late '88/early '89 for its deposition date. As for when it disappeared, I really can't remember, as by the '90s I was firmly ensconced in my car & my daily train trips to work were a distant memory...
