knobhead
I wanted to finish the Pannier before starting a new little project. However, I managed to misplace the coupling rods for the Pannier and the replacements didn't arrive today (won't get any mail until January 2nd) The Lima loco is probably not the best starting point for a first batch (2161-2180) 2-6-2, but here we go! North Star will follow this one.
knobhead
I placed a 1,5 mm plastic sheet across the tanks and built up boiler and firebox sides with plastic and filler. Once set (tomorrow), I'll cut out the inside of boiler and firebox.

buffalo
I see you've left the top feed in place, so 1909-ish? Nick
Guest jonte
Damn!!! I've got one of these, Stefan, but I chopped up the chassis several years back during a brief 'continental' interlude. Now beyond redemption, unfortunately. Why do I do these things.................... Will be watching with interest anyway. Best wishes, Jonte.
knobhead
A bit more done and it still fits on the chassis!
Gilwell Park
| think you will find that the whole body is too high. If you cut round the bottom of the tanks just above the line of rivets it comes out ok. However you then have to remove some plastic from the motor housing to make the body fit. Roger. knobhead
Thanks for the tip, Roger!I will check it out; If it looks stupid, I'll follow your advice. If I think it looks OK as is, I won't. Regards, Stefan
knobhead
Removed the curved drop in the front and the steam pipes.
knobhead
Hi 81C, You're making me slightly nervous, I don't want my Lima to melt. Chassis building isn't my thing and if this one's turning into a blob I would have to go with the Bachmann model. It's a much better loco anyway, but possibly not as much fun butchering. relaxinghobby
Can I ask what is the white plastic filler you use, I have Milliput 2 part filler and War-Hammer Green Stuff. The Green Stuff is slow to set and difficult to push into small cracks, I believe it is really intended to make figures with. The Milliput is OK but does not look as versatile as your white stuff. RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted January 10, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2013 Hi Knobhead, Thanks for the tip about the putty. Is it acrylic? And do you happen to know a European supplier? I could only find US ones in my search.

I could only find US ones in my search. Hi Mikkel! No, it's not acrylic. Since it dries faster than most, the smell also goes away quickly. Here's a Swedish supplier: http://www.rebell.com/tools/spackel-slip.html Regards, Stefan

knobhead
Thanks 81C! The lamp irons in the front are made from bits of leftover brass frets. The slightly more elaborate ones in the back are bought (Springside?) £10 Prairies sounds excellent! It's more fun to work on bargains me thinks. Try Mainlytrains for ponytruck wheels, the stock Gibson as well as Markits. I wouldn't mind a few pics when your Prairie is finished?
