Hi Alex.

just spent a very enjoyable few days of holiday reading through all 110 pages. Can only echo what others have said on here, absolutely stunning attention to detail. I'm sure it would be a massive hit if exhibited one day, but I think you're going to need a fork lift to get it to the van in the first place.

Regarding cameras for interior shots when it goes together, a few years ago I bought a cam truck which has proved brilliant for getting around my layout (here). Full HD though so it does show up every little detail I think I've sorted and haven't! For shunting moves in hidden sidings I've used a car reversing camera. These can be picked up fairly cheaply on eBay (usually from China), are usually 12V, and work well in low-light conditions.

Looking forward to more while trying to resist a blue 56.

Rich

Hi all,

Over the last few days I’ve made a start on the tracklaying for Boxenby, following delivery of the flat bottom rail from C&L and the laser cut sleepers from Jason Johnson (who I can’t recommend enough for laser cut sleepers from templot). A big thank you goes to Jason for helping with this project!

First up with the help of my dad I’ve taped the plan to a spare mirror to allow me to build the track off scene in sections. 37707 for scale:

It was then back to my house for permanent way works to begin. The first sleeper was laid:AF112FA7-1772-4DF6-8B09-A1504957CD63.jpeg.254d8be7a039eaa84d18cbb1dce0e29b.jpeg

Followed by 207 more for the first two lengths with 37114 posed for scale:D1163AB6-422F-44D0-BF1F-749E9B882703.jpeg.517381303f27b7ed177341818e3793e5.jpeg

Then it was pandrol clip threading time for the first length of track. Not the most fun job putting 208 clips onto 2m of rail but the end result is worth it. I then flipped the rail upside down and soldered on the Palatine Models etched droppers - these will come on really handy when I come to glue the track down later on.

Following the droppers being soldered on I could then glue down the two rails. I worked on one rail following the templot plan keeping the rail directly above the line on the plan, gluing the clips down every 20 or so clips. Using gauges I then did the same with the opposite rail. Once both rails were in place I then went back and glued down all of the clips, ensuring the track was fully glued together.

Then it was dremel time for the joints, followed by gluing in the cosmetic fish plates. A few shots of the first completed length of track:

As you can see it’s quite a length! I quite like the Loadhaul grid there, however @Grimleygrid doesn’t seem to agree!

I’m awaiting further droppers from Palatine models, however once received I will lay the other three metre lengths in this section.

Kind regards,

Will

Good morning,

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the people that have helped me over the years to get this project to this stage, I really do appreciate the advice and assistance.

Whilst there is still a long way still to go, I am still as determined as ever to see this through. For my own sanity!

Also, thank you to all those RMweb members that have continued to visit the thread, post and give input and feedback. It is nice to see that people enjoy reading my thread and seeing updates.

I am starting to get a little excited at the prospect of actually getting some track down and potentially seeing some movement on the layout in the not too distant future.

Hopefully I can get this project nearly finished before 2029!!

Thanks again to all for the continued support.

Evening all,

More progress on Boxenby tracklaying - 4 metre long lengths are now complete. I need to finish off the ends of the lengths with two other metre long sections of flat bottom rail I’ve already threaded the pandrol clips on. The first 4 metres with a few Boxenby locos posed for an idea of scale. @RBE has done a superb job on the 20s, they make me want to backdate my modelling period!

Looking forward to getting it off the mirror and onto the board at the end of the week!

Kind regards,

Will

It is rapidly approaching the time of the year where I reflect on the progress that has been made over the past twelve months. In this case, very little!!

Thank you to everyone that has popped along to my thread to see if there have been any updates.
It is always nice to know that my project does generate a little interest.

The two main boards have been cleared and are now ready for some track to be laid. I am planning to get some sleepers and rail down over the festive period.

Amazing! Love the n gauge 37 & 56 in the background ;)

Have a great Christmas!

Morning Will,

I am pleased that you spotted the illusion of perspective trick using the N gauge locos. This has long been a method adopted by many of the famous scale modellers in the past!!!

Merry Christmas!

Cheers Peter.

Hi Peter,

How are things down under? Hope you and your family are all okay.

Thanks, it has been a while so nice to actually get some modelling done on the layout.

I am still targeting 2030 for it to be finished!!!

Hi Alex,

We are going ok here. We had a hard lockdown earlier in the year but things are ok at the moment.

Hoping you can get a bit done over Christmas, it will look great with a bit of track down.
