I had to scroll through several pages in order to confirm that this is in fact a 4mm layout as opposed to 2mm.

I wish you every success with it and will follow your progress with interest.

I remember the 56s being introduced on the Port Talbot- Llanwern ore trains and being impressed by the noise and power.

Best wishes for 2021.

Such an interesting time for variations of locos and liveries.

Happy New Year and I’ll come to your ballasting party...

Hi Damian,

Happy New Year.

Yes it was. I plan to model the period 1988 to 1992 but have different ideas. Might have to potentially model slightly different periods with some stock that can straddle 88 to 92.

I would like to model 1988 as that was the year when we visited Toton and still allows a few Peaks to be seen. I know that by that time the 45s had all been reallocated to Tinsley but it is my train set after all!!

But I also would like to have class 60s on the scene alongside battered pairs of 20s just ahead of their withdrawal.

As you say it is the variety of traction and liveries. BR blue, Large Logo, Original Railfreight, Red Stripe Railfreight, Sector and departmental. 08s, 20s, 31s, 37s, 45s, 47s, 56s, 58s.....

Great, thanks. I will let you know the date...

Thanks 9C85.

Happy New year.

Yes I can confirm that the layout is 4mm. Unfortunately the photos don't quite show the scale of the layout very well if I am being honest.

Hopefully as more progress is made it will show better.

You beat me to it - no rush and all the best.

Hope you like progress so far.

Looks great to me - that's a lot of progress in not a lot of time.

Thanks Tug002.

Yes I am really pleased with the progress made over the festive period. I feel that it is really coming alive and providing some much needed motivation.

I am actually very excited about my project!

Im sure you have said before but wherever you got your track design from ,  would that have a function to tell you how many sleeper? .

maybe you could run a completion to guess the amount and  whoever is unlucky enough to win gets to do you ballasting :D   .

Only joking, I am not that mad!!!......

Great idea for a competition!

However, I am not sure many people would enter!

A quick update.

I have laid the sleepers for the start of the three stabling sidings which sit to the north of the depot adjacent to the washer plant line.

Before I post a few photos I thought it might be good to look back to how it was prior to the Festive period.

Hi Mr G!,

OMG, it just goes on and on and on and on!

I have to say I LOVE those three 'proper' locos sitting out on that thru road, the way you've done this just captures the expanse of the place superbly, Most impressive indeed. Of course, you do know that you're gonna suffer exactly the same issues running the place as we do on the real railway don't you? That is, the loco you want out next, will of course be the one buried in at the back and you'll have to do 'the mother of all shunts' to release it? Good Luck!!!

At Hither Green, a tiny place by comparison, when we had to shunt a load of locos to release one, it would take forever, even with a gang of Drivers working together, climbing up, climbing down, winding parking brakes on and off, great fun on 37's, and most importantly, trying not to lose any of your Drivers keys in the process!!!

A long ceased practise which I of course only heard about, lol's, was to take a handful of locos out past the exit dummy all at the same time, as opposed to requesting the road for each loco individually, the shunter on the ground would just reset the points as you fed each one back into where it had to go. This worked well as long as you all kept close together!!!! I can see you having loads of fun shunting this layout....

Bloomin' amazing work, well done!!!

Kindest Regards,

Shed.

Thank you Mr Shedmaster.

Boxenby was devised with those Brush Beasts in mind, they really do look at home sat on shed. Or will do once it isn't just sleepers!!

That sounds like fun!

You will have to visit and show me how it is done with my little locos!

Not much progress this week, more research on the internet.

A couple of different views:

Version 2 of the Washer Plant line.

Overall I am pretty pleased with the scale and size of this version.

Here are a few photos with a loco on the concrete area to give an idea of scale.

Now to sort out the channel in the middle of the line that allows the dirty water to drain away.

Here is a photo of the concrete area at March depot to show what I mean.

Still completely nuts? :D

Unfortunately the only cure is for me to finish it!!

I do not think that there is any doubt about my nuttiness!!

I just hope that I can finish it during this decade!!

For my own sanity.....

Your spoiling me to much with those shots of 3 60s in a line. look amazing,  they all Hornby?

for all those locos did they only ever have the one wash bay?

Well, I couldn't resist getting out a few 60s...Yes they are all Hornby. Superb models.

I think there is another one, 014 Alexander Flemming, inside the depot.

Also have another couple of Petroleum ones which will be renumbered and most likely sector symbols changed in the future.

Yes I believe that there was only the one Washer Plant for the depot.

A quick update. Not a great deal of progress has been made over the past few weeks, not visually anyway. Although behind the scenes work is still ongoing which includes work on the Washer Plant Line and the Load Bank road. A big thank you to Jason Johnson for his help with laser cutting the pieces for these two areas of the layout.

Fairly early this morning a parcel arrived and like a child on Christmas morning I opened it straight away.....I couldn't wait!!

This is what was in the parcel.

The Washer Plant Line concrete area will be lowered into the board to allow the rail to sit at the correct height and line up to the track at each end.

Once painted and weathered I think these two areas will add interest and become nice features of the layout.
