Tricky
Just pressing ‘craftsmanship/clever’ doesn’t do this justice. Really very good indeed. 5
Popular Post Adrian Knowles
Recalling memories of the London Transport pannier tanks in the late 1960s. This is a ScaleSeven pannier by Masterpiece Models which I sent to Martyn Welch for a wonderful weathering job that really has captured the characteristic appearance of these locos in service. The brake van is an adapted Dapol model. 52
vitalspark
What a stunning picture! The colour and weathering are spot on as is the track and ballast and the firemans face is so clearly defined that I thought I recognised him! Enough to make me change to S7.. GreenGiraffe22
A photo I took of Plumpton Green at the Bluebell Railway on Sunday. By far one of the best layouts I've ever seen. I don't often see Sussex layouts at exhibitions. Very inspiring stuff! I could have watched it all day. Colour and Black & White A photo I took of my layout yesterday, in a rather lower league. :p H Class with Birdcage set and A1x with parcels in vent & passenger luggage vans.

Popular Post Edwardian
I have never had the temerity to post here before - I don't have much in a finished state and I would make no claims as to its accuracy, realism or finesse - but moreover, I think that the modeller of older eras has some especial challenges, which I felt I would not overcome. Some of the pictures that work best are those of the diesel era, where we are used to seeing colour images of the real thing, especially where the modeller replicates the de-saturated look of, say, 1970s colour film. Is there a pre-Grouping equivalent, I wondered. Well Ruston of this parish recently put me on to a great trick for converting pictures to a battered sepia that 'degrades' the image to something closer to the photographic quality of earlier eras. No skill is involved in producing the effect - that's all done automatically - but it does result in a more sympathetic treatment for pre-Grouping models. I am pretty thrilled at how forgiving the effect is! 20
Mrkirtley800
We used to soak the photos in sodium sulphide solution to get the sepia finish. But, you have to be careful how long they are soaking. Derek

Edwardian
The difficulty is finding shots taken from a low enough viewpoint to look realistic. A survey of my own exhibition snaps reveals that I have consistently failed to take such pictures. I wanted to see some shots of MrKirtley800's Kirkby Malham duly 'aged', so conducted a brief smash and grab raid to copy some of his pictures, so, again, I apologise for pilfering from others' posts ...

Agree many shots taken on 4mm layouts are looking down to a degree. Attached couple that are low angle taken on Alloa. EWS60065
A few of my layout. Not the best but I'm sure they're not the worst either. Firstly, a GWR 2-8-0 prepares to depart Ashcombe, with the driver at the ready on the whistle. A peaceful afternoon by a small foot crossing. Cattle in the lineside fields settle down for the night in the long summer grass. A night time shot of the evening dining service ready to depart. Another black and white photograph, this time we see a Parkside Beetle prize cattle van. And finally, my attempt at an ivy covered telegraph pole. It still needs some improvement but looks OK. I must say, some of the other photos here on this forum are absolutely amazing! Edited July 10, 2019 by GWR5764
RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted July 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 10, 2019 Cattle lying down is supposed to be a sign of impending rain, isn’t it, or is that horses?
