E3109
Pedants appeased. Offending image removed. I just can't be bothered with it all. Rob. They're cobbles here in Wigan too, and we have a lot of them (mostly hidden under tarmacadam these days) sod them NHY. Trainspotters are such a pedantic bunch...

Porcy Mane
A commentary on cobbles. Almost as good as Barry's Lectrics. Cobblers to you all...
RMweb Gold Popular Post NHY 581 Posted September 30, 2018 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 30, 2018 I wasn't going to comment any further but what the hell. I model with a very broad brush and do so for fun and enjoyment. Never will be a finescale modeller and do not aspire to be. I just try and do the best I can with readily available items such as RTR stock and RTP buildings. Tension locks. Yep, they are there I can see them. Live with it. I appreciate they are not to everyones liking. This has already been discussed before not going over it again. It is somewhere within the 242 pages of this thread. Should you feel the need, crack on. I could remove them for photo purposes but then I am not being honest as that is how I ordinarily operate the layout. No doubt if I did some buffoon would notice there were no couplings at all and ask how I expected things to stay joined together.... Cobbles-My fault, I failed to anticipate the need some people in this hobby have to demonstrate knowledge/make a noise for the sake of it. I used the term 'cobbles' without any thought or anticipation that someone somewhere would point out that it wasn't correct. Do I really care? No not really but the need to show off by nit picking just irritates the hell out me and this type of comment adds nothing to the thread. I am clearly getting less tolerant as I get older. Can I suggest starting a thread to discuss such matters further. Perhaps it could cater for like subjects such as gravel, hardcore, pebbles etc, etc. To clarify. My particular efforts are individually carved from DAS over a period of three evenings using a pointy metal thing. Plenty more to do before the layout is finished. I often see comments made on the forum regarding peoples modelling which are harsh, ill informed and undermining. Am I that worried? No. I couldn't give a rat's arse really but this aspect of the hobby is very tedious to say the least. Back to cobbles. Rob.
westerner
Brilliant Rob, I agree with all you said. I do wonder if some of the carpers show their work on here.

GreenGiraffe22
NHY 581 I always enjoy your photos and hope you continue to post =) Sadly this forum can become quite toxic at times, there are some who relish in being condescending to other members of the hobby for whatever reason. A superiority complex perhaps... Anyway, I barely notice the tension locks in your photos because I'm distracted by the fantastic scenes your photos create =)
RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted September 30, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 30, 2018 (edited) I am another t/l user, a reluctant reconverso from scale couplings due to deterioration of eyesight and hand/eye co-ordination with advancing (but it feels like regressing) age. Rob's work has been inspirational to me as showing that you can make something with tension locks that does not look like a train set. Viewing his layouts operating at shows, one is barely aware of them and totally absorbed in the realistic action, and I have attempted to emulate this on my own layout. I have succeeded to my satisfaction but am nowhere near in Rob's league! T/ls have created another benefit, as I have been able to use train set track in the fiddle yard out of sight to squeeze another two roads in. It is impossible to have too many roads in your fiddle yard... Edited September 30, 2018 by The Johnster

Don’t give ‘them’ the satisfaction of thinking they’ve managed to ‘score a point’. Quite agree, It amazes me that people argue whether they are cobbles or not but ignore the the fact that the gauge is 4'1' seriously all model railways are compromises and your looks a lot less compromised than mine.

Unfortunately I was unable to photoshop any wires in .Incredible. Its probably just as well you didn't photoshop the wires in, I doubt anyone would have believed it was a model! Your pylons really demonstrate a labour of love for the subject, stunning work. Edited October 1, 2018 by Signaller69

This is before I began to consider whether or not I was looking at a model or not! Excellent stuff PMP.
