vitalspark
This thread opened on the bottom picture. I instantly recognised it as Alloa, more from my recognition of the prototypes as the model (although I have seen the model). Excellent Andy Thank you for your kind comments Andy. One of the advantages of modelling a real place is with photographs and drawings to hand its easier to make the thing look realistic plus questions like the correct location and type of signals etc are all readily answered. To build a fictitious model and have it end up looking 'real' I would say is much more of a challenge..another reason why our group prefer actual locations. RMweb Gold Popular Post Captain Kernow Posted January 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 23, 2019 In 1961, British Railways Western Region trialed a WD 2-8-0 on the Somerset & Dorset, as a possible replacement to the ex-S&DJR 7Fs. The trials were not a success on the Mendip section, as the WD locos were unable to hold the weight of the heavy coal trains on the steep gradients. One of the trial locos was used one day on a local goods service on the Highbridge branch, from Evercreech Junction. Part of that diagram involved working the morning pick-up tripper down from Glastonbury to Bleakhouse Road, known to some local railwaymen as the 'Peat Bog Special', on account of the preponderance of bagged peat products in box vans that originated from Bleakhouse Road. Here we see the WD 2-8-0 resting in the main platform road at Bleakhouse Road, whilst the crew wait for traffic to arrive off the South Polden Light Railway:
