I made it up to Mills Road Bridge yesterday to catch a newly transferred to Seven Mills Sidings Class 37 in BR Blue, No 37206, it arrived dirty and almost empty so immediately needed some Fuel,

I've bunged this one in here, not because it's spectacularly realistic in content but to illustrate my thoughts on posting monochrome images. I find that just using the camera settings (cheap point and click) I can get a good colour balance and realistic tones. However turning it into a black and white image by desaturating or using an automatic program feature gives an image which lacks definition and is dark or muddy. Fortunately there's a simple solution if you use Irfanview or similar. Dial in 'gamma correction' which  lightens up and pulls detail out of the shadows then whack in a whole fistful of 'contrast'. The difference these two simple actions have on bringing life to a photo is pretty amazing. Give it a go. Here's the above photo before tweaking.
