This has got to rate as the best idea along with Jason's for the Lunester tag. The way it's going, it won't be long before it overtakes KL for posts.

Jason - Pure quality (having problems typing I'm laughing so much)

Duncan - Crying with laughter Lunester

Morning All,

Great idea Jeff - certainly should help keep the layout thread a bit more 'on-topic'.

Music wise, I have to admit to being a little boring, my normal reply to people who ask "Have you heard of X?" is "Do they play it on Radio 2?  If they do, yes, if not, never heard of them...".

I too have a large garden, but OH (who lives elsewhere) seems to think that I should be spending time with her at weekends, rather than actually getting on with things.  It doesn't bode well for its neatness or productiveness.  This is what it looked like a couple of years ago - it's had a bit of a trim since then.

Also into walking (LDWA too - at least, I will be once I remember to renew...), used to do a lot when I was 7 or 8, then got back into it a couple of years ago.

Jason - that's brilliant...

Good idea Jeff

Music wise I am certainly with you & Andy on Allman Brothers Duane was just the "best" also listen to a lot of Rossington Collins Band, The Band, Eagles, Rory Gallagher, Robert Palmer, Doobie Bros, Bonnie Raitt, Deep Purple, Jools Holland, I could go on & on, oh I did.

Of the current crop, their are some very talented people around that haven't come through TV talentless shows, I really like Paloma Faith, & Ami MacDonald.

Gardening, certainly not in my top interests, although I do have a go every now & again, got to keep the path clear to Sheddinghton whoops sorry didn't meant to mention model railway subjects, damn did it again.

Other interests include photography & a bit of astromony

"Dear Andy,

I'm at my wits end. I set up a thread for the layout I was building and it has seemingly become a social club for every gobshite on RMWeb. If they aren't talking about cars, they are on about obscure bands from the 60's, the history of cobwebs, the planet Mercury, what they had for tea on the 8th February 1987, whether apples are juicier than pears, etc., etc., etc. It has got so bad that I have had to set up an index so I can actually find the rare posts where someone (usually myself) is discussing something actually related to railways. 159 pages of it, with 25 posts per page..... WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?

Please, for the love of all that is good, PLEASE can you ban them all. Alternatively, can I set up a separate thread so they can all prattle on in there so I can hopefully actually get a loco running on at least one length of track before the thread reaches 10,000,000 posts.

Yours desperately,

Jeff"

:D

Just Brilliant Jason, the trouble I have now is that there are so many bits to bob about to and from that I am having to sell my TRAIN STUFF to concentrate on keeping abreast of all the activity on all the various threads on here. :O

I seem do do a post, jump to another and then shoot back to see if You, Jeff or one of the Bill's etc have replied.

This is all very time consuming so I have a new suggestion. :nono:

wait for it

scrool down :stinker:

WE COMBINE ALL THE LUNESTER SITES INTO ONE BIG SITE, = KL, Social, Bacup,Great West Road,Shedington, Oxted, T and GR ETC ETC ETC.

We would have over the magic 10,000 pages and only one site to look on for all this GOBSHITE MATERIAL, hahhaheheheheheeeeeee

Causing trouble again, Old Lune :sungum:

Morning Gents, what a great idea - a sort of club within a club. Music seems to feature very heavily and while I like to think I have eclectic tastes, I don't think I really have, as it's classical mostly, Bach and Handel. I sing in a local male voice choir and we give charity concerts in various chapels, churches and village halls. I would like to get out into the hills and do some walking but, I don't. As to gardening, I don't mind it and as I have recently moved into a new home, I am starting over again with the back garden. I have demolished an old shed and a greenhouse, taken out a fence and am trying to fill a deep pond that the last owner kept carp in. Will post a pick when I can take a photo in daylight. The other thing that takes up my time is that as well as holding down a proper full-time job, I am an ordained minister and we have just taken on three more parishes this new year, so there's not much modelling time on Sundays!

Not sure if any of you have looked at my profile but the last comment I added was with regards to what I thought were the songs of 2012. Not sure if any of you have heard the songs, although I know that Jeff is now an Orbital fan (at least of the 2nd album) so here, courtesy of YouTube, are the two songs; maybe a bit different to what some of the Lunesters may usually listen to?

Straight Sun by Orbital

Atlas Air by Massive Attack (a shorter version than that on the album unfortunately)

Both are the official videos so have adverts at the start unfortunately.

A late afternoon thought; perhaps we could have a slight tweak to the name of this thread?

Up to Jeff - Head Lunester! - but what do you think about this being called the "Lunester Lounge"?  It just sounds a little more relaxed than the "Lunester social area"....

(and relieves the main K/L thread of the unwritten monniker "Lunester anti-social area"!)

Thoughts, musings, rotten tomatoes?

Cheers

Scott

Hi Jeff and all

What a good idea starting this thread.

Let's see,

Signalman on NR in a panel box - For Andy's(uax6) info this is the sort of box where we look after several trains at once not just one up and one down at a time - I HATE gardening with a passion as its time I could use modelling, my musical tastes are brass and military bands, I married a girl several years younger than me the outcome of which is I became father again at 51! and my other passion apart from trains is motorsport where I am a safety official at various events including the British Grand Prix.

Thats it for now, I'd better get back to delaying signaling trains now, 2-1(that's train out of section for the uninitiated)

Ian

Well it appears as if my idea hasn't fallen on stoney ground. Very pleased about that. I'll say at the outset that I didn't intend this thread to be a "relief valve" for KL and the other rail threads (!!) - but once started, it was obvious that it might be.

As for KL - do not feel you can't make all the usual comments, as it'd change the nature of the beast. But this place is already popular and a natural focus for what Jason referred to as "sensible discussion" (gobsh**ing)!!

Now then Andy - we'll all be getting banned if you suggest a Lunester breakaway group. What do you think this is - Scottish independence!?  :O  :jester:

Jeff

Let's not go down the Scottish Independence route - it would make the S&C a bit pointless (afterall, who would really want to go to Carlisle?).

Boring day at work today - trying to reduce error counts in code analysis.  *yawn*

Hey, are we talking Barclay James here? If so, brilliant!! Went to see them in concert 4-5 times between 1973 and 1976. Cracking bunch of lads from Oldham....

Galadriel, Negative Earth, Mockingbird - I always thought the "Time Honoured Ghosts" album (1975!!) was superb.

Wow - another coincidence....

Jeff

You just had to mention that one didn't you, I have been humming it all morning whilst doing domestic duties and it is still in my head as I go off to prepare lunch. :music_mini:

Who mentioned gardens?  This is the front garden as it was in April 2005 - before the bungalow was demolished and before we started ground clearance and the builder started ground messing up  -

post-6859-0-50090900-1360239800_thumb.jpg

This is the front garden last summer from roughly the same viewpoint - look at the telegraph pole near the gate -

post-6859-0-11320800-1360239893_thumb.jpg

This is the back garden in the autumn just past and very much a work in progress, much of the patio in place, the steps down to the next level complete (see below) but a lot to do although the veg patch (behind the garage) and greenhouse are fully operational.  To get an idea of scale teh green shed visible in the distance at the bottom end of the garden is 16ft long.

post-6859-0-82878700-1360239996_thumb.jpg

The steps under construction - spent ages working out how to do it and after several changes of plan this is what finally emerged

post-6859-0-10243500-1360240149_thumb.jpg

Not easy to compare but this was the back garden before we started - if you look in the high level view above you will see a patch of bare concrete front of view right - that is the floor of the white workshop building you see in the view below.  The change in levels further back is due to all the hard material of the demolished bungalow being tipped there to save removal costs.

Haven't got any modelling done (yet) today, but I have had the music while completing other jobs. :banghead:

Lynard Skynard, Thin Lizzy, Toto, Rainbow, Procol Harem, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heap, Deep Purple, AC / DC, Black Sabbath and Kaiser Chiefs. :music:

I have a question for the Lunesters being the diverse, well balanced :jester:  individuals that you are. Have you / would you / should you put this hobby on your CV?

I have in the past - haven't done a CV in so long now though...  I think it's a good thing to put on a CV if you are a modeller - so many skills required, and most of them are transferable.  And so much better than socialising, watching TV, or drinking...

Slightly different question - strangest thing you've put on a CV?

Thing is, Jim, it was ALWAYS the last track they played at their concerts. If you haven't got a copy of BJH Live (1974-5), let me know. It's superb....PM me an address and I'll send you a copy.

Answer = YES!

Why? Well, it gives a wide-ranging topic you can discuss, particularly for you with the electrics. Railway modelling brings in a diverse range of skills and demonstrates that you are "on the ball" outside of work. And if the interviewer knows nothing about it, you can bamboozle them with DCC....

Always good to include aspects of your life that single you out from the crowd!

Jeff

PS. I'll give a vote for Toto.... "Hold the Line" is an excellent song!

I was at an interview for a PhD research project, way back in 1979. The panel went through the usual stuff and then one of them looked at me (I think he was the non-specialist from Personnel) and said... "Minimalist music .... never known anyone to admit to THAT before" (said with contempt). It was a great opening as it allowed me to contrast established classical stuff with 20th century and people like Peteris Vasks and Philip Glass. The panel knew nothing about any of this - it gave ME an advantage!

Jeff

Edit: Beware! I'm sure they EXPECT you to put obscure stuff on a CV for effect. Just make sure what you say is true!

Hi Jeff, New problem, every time I log on and see a list of peoples like in the way of bands, and yea I like them too, BJH, Lynnard Skinerd, Kiser Cefs, Deep Purple, Sabeth, AC/DC Etc. all greats PLUS THE ONE AND ONLY JIMMY HENDRIX.

Music vids above were very good, liked both tracks a lot 10 out of 10 for that.

I went for an interview many years ago and was BRAVE ENOUGH to put on my CV Model Railways under the intrests, it turned out the MD that was doing the interview was into EM and O Gauge, got the job without a second interview.

Cant wait for the new F1 season to get under way, should be another cracker I hope. I have planned most of my shows away from GP weekends, Come on Jenson,

Andy. :sungum:

Not getting much done in the way of modelling today (wel my own). I'm trying to realise the kids design of a heritage loco depot building that they designed from photos of real ones. Fortunately, all of the stuff for their layout was bought before finances became an issue.

Have to agree with you about the F1 season, but got to follow Lewis as my boys are big fans.

A couple of Lunesters have nearly died today.....   :O   :O

They made the mistake of reading Jason's post (#20) while eating their breakfast!!!  :nono:

Silly billies (no offence Billy and Bill and...any other Bills out there!)....

I've given his masterpiece pride of place.... go and have a look at post 1.

To me it summarises the humour, breadth and camaraderie in the Lunester camp. Please feel free to disagree. The fact that it already has 15 "likes" is interesting...
