Lynton & Barnstaple OO9 Loco from Heljan

I think the evidence is in front of your nose. Bearing in mind this is a new venture for Heljan it is obvious they would want to cover all bases over these models and the 009 market is not as big as the 00 and 0 market.

I personally believe that these locos are going to prove popular like the Hornby Pecket, even at the higher price.

No matter what caused the price change we the consumer have two choices, purchase them at the higher price or not purchase them, the choice is yours. But if I was a betting man I think the former will happen with the models selling out in days.

Loconuts

The  retailers  from  whom  I  buy  have  confirmed  to  me  nothing  has  changed  regarding  their  items  costs

As a matter  of  interest  the  loco  has  already   sold  out  in  many  outlets

Heljan have their UK outline models delivered on import from China, to their Danish HQ, and then distribute to the UK outlets fron Denmark. Import for Customs will be in a European mainland country, possibly Germany or Holland I would suspect, unless the tie up with Peco for this model has altered the normal arrangements

Depends on the routing but normally most stuff arrives Rotterdam from China. Either if it is a Full container load it full will be transhipped under bond possibly via a Feeder vessel from R/dam to be cleared in Denmark or the container will be broken down and shipped as groupage and trucked / railed to under bond to Denmark for clearing.

These did look smashing in RM the other month, Tempted to get one but the over €200 price might just make me wait till they appear with the statement 'Bargain' in Certain advertisements in the Model railway mags. If it does not happen then too bad for me.

Personally I don't believe the pricing has changed from the manufacturer. This model is being sold in more outlets than the normal 'oo' range, as it also covers those specialising in '009' which is where the tie in with Peco occurs and the first releases appear to be very popular. I've noticed that a certain mail order retailer in Liverpool does increase some of its prices to rrp when a model is popular and stock is down to the last few, they recently did this with a new Freightliner wagon from Dapol, but this normally does not affect any pre order prices. I've always had Heljan pre order prices maintained by them, even when Heljan has increased the wholesale and retail price before release.

The currency it was ordered in isn't really relevant to the thread ;)

We seem to be wandering off a bit ;)

I've been tweaking the plan for the mini layout to run them on. The end's 9 inches wide with the track in the middle, L&B min modular anyone ;)

Yes, of course the thread has wandered off a bit from the 2013 early speculation as to whether the loco would actually be produced, through the early sightings of pre-production examples, to the excitement of the imminent deliveries. The recent spate of price discussion has filled up the waiting period for those anxious customers and those who want to order or re-order. International programmes like this are bound to be affected by currency exchange variations so it was merely an aspect of those discussions.

Perhaps discussion of a layout to put it on should be on a new thread as this one is principally about the product itself.....

No I was just trying to get people thinking of something to run it on rather than a spreading discussion on import routes and finance, it's not going to be a build thread ;)

Somewhere to enjoy it ;)

Well yes  I  think  that  thinking  about  what  to  do  with  them  when  they  get here  is  a  very  creditable  idea!

I have  been  doing  just   that  for  a  couple  of  years  now,, and  even  begun  to  lay  track  and  then  scrap  the   idea  and  used  the  locations  for  something  else  ( 0n30  & N).

Currently  my  plans  are  centreing  in  an  approx. 3' x  7'  baseboard  which  is  already,  partly  constructed  I am trying  to  keep  the  track  plan  simple  in  line  with the  original  L&B's plans

so it will probably   be  just  a  condensed version  of  one  of  the  stations  on a  continuous  run ( I am  not keen  on  end  to  end  layouts)  so   that  I can watch  the  trains  go  by, but  there  will be a   fiddle/storage  facility  at  the  rear  so  that a 'proper' timetable can be  run  when  I   feel  like  it.

So let  the  layout  discussion commence!

Trouble  is  with  the  much  improvement  in  the  weather recently  the  Garden  Line  keeps  calling

Mick Thornton posted this image on NGRM and has kindly said it's ok to share it here. Taken at the 009 Society AGM at Rainford last weekend.

Mick said,

"Andrew Burnham kindly brought along 2 production models from Peco of the new Heljan Manning Wardle and they spent the day in a very suitable setting, running on Bob Barnard's superb Chelfham diorama layout (as seen in 009 News current issue). Photos of the first of the range to appear, in Southern livery have already been published, so for this report, here is possibly everyone's first glimpse of Manning wardle Yeo in original Lynton and Barnstaple Indian Red, Black and lined Green - an absolutely splendid model that looks even better in the flesh than it does in a photo."

Oh good I can connect Coombe Martin to it and we can go freemoo 9 ;) ah we are going to have to do it now just so we can add to the confusion FREMO, Freemo and Freemoo! :)

Funnily enough I knocked up an idea for an end profile yesterday

From Heljan's Facebook:

Lynton & Barnstaple 9950 - 9952 update
Having recently returned from our vendor in China, we are able to update you on the anticipated delivery date for these models.
The initial production run should arrive mid-May with the remainder arriving early in June.
As you may know, due to the large demand for these models we have instigated a re-run which we anticipate arriving late August, but unfortunately this re-run will be the subject of a price increase.

I've received my order update from Hattons confirming these revised release dates. The e-mail also showed the model at £189.95, so I e-mailed back to ask if my pre order price of £146 would be maintained and they have confirmed that it will be honoured. Phew

Just got the same mail.

Must admit, I've taken to following this thread just to see if it gets to 500 posts before anyone actually receives an order..

It was about a thousand before the Hornby Peckett arrived...

Cheers,

Keith
