Popular Post BRIAN T
ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO I SCRATCHBUILT A "COMPRESSED" VERSION OF ABERCYNON SHED WHICH WAS LOCATED IN THE SOUTH WALES VALLEYS JUST NORTH OF PONTYPRIDD,...FOR PURELY NOSTALGIC REASONS ,PASSING IT IN THE DISTANCE FROM THE OLD A470 ROAD ,STILL WITH WORKING STEAM , WHEN TRAVELLING AROUND THE AREA WITH MY FATHER WHEN I WAS 9 YEARS OLD. THE BUILDING NEVER HAD A LAYOUT FOR A HOME UNTIL NOW. AFTER SELLING MY OLD LAYOUT "RANSON BRIDGE " IN NOVEMBER 2012 ,I THOUGHT i WOULD BUILD A MICRO/SMALL LAYOUT FOR EXHIBTIONS THAT WOULD FIT IN THE BACK OF MY CAR IN ONE PIECE THE DIMENSIONS ARE 40 INCHES LONG BY 16 INCHES WIDE.......THE TRACK IS SMP CODE 75 (THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER USED IT ), THERE AE NO POINTS ...ALL FIDDLING AND TURNING DONE BY AN ATLAS TURNTABLE HIDDEN IN THE 8 INCH FIDDLE AREA. THE LAYOUT IS DCC AND SOUND HENCE ABERCYNON FACH WAS BORN OBVIOUSLY THE TRACK PLAN HAS BEEN RATIONALISED AS IS THE SCENIC BREAK AND BACKGROUND BUT I THINK IT GIVES A FLAVOUR OF THE PLACE AS I REMEMBER IT HERE ARE A FEW PHOTOS TO START THE THREAD ,HOPEFULLY WILL FOLLOW WITH SOME MORE PICS AND VIDEO CLIPS THANKS FOR LOOKING

Abercynon, just over the valley from me. Blues Harp!!! Phil Edited February 20, 2013 by phil.c

RMweb Premium southern42 Posted February 20, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) Love it. Love it. Love it. I had a childhood friend who lived in Abercynon. We met up when she visited a neighbour for holidays, usually twice a year. I visited Blaenclydach in the Rhondda when very small indeed but the memory lives on. Special place down there, isn't it mun? Will be following this one, for sure. [hope you're not getting bored with the same smiley] Keep [edit. insert: up] the good work. RBE
Not really a green diesel days modeller myself but this layout has a really nice feel about it. Looks like a fabulous warm day in Wales. I may well tick the follow box on this as a nice little get away now and again. The name of the layout does remind me a little of my grandad chuntering in the corner mind! westerner
A very elegant solution in making a small layout, yet keeping a spacious look. Also good to see a S. Wales layout.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted February 20, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20, 2013 Smashing job Brian - rather captures the atmosphere of the place I think - a shed I visited in September 1962.
rcmacchipilot
Very well blended colours with the backscene. its almost seemless. Is it a photo you took yourself? marc smith
Having been privelied enough to see Abercynnon Fach, I can only add positive words. The photos and video clip are great...... but honestly, it is even better "in the flesh" bags of atmosphere in a small space, and nice & simple to operateAnother case for DCC sound - as it's nice just to watch locos coming onto shed, and stitting there, ticking over or hissing away.... lovely Thanks for posting the pics BrianCheers
