RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted March 17, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 17, 2013 We're relaying approx 300 yards of the Up Main line at South Brent in a Sat night - Mon morning possession this weekend, so naturally I popped down at lunchtime to see how they were getting on, which was, in fact, on schedule: View looking towards Plymouth: View looking towards Exeter, the extent of the relaying is immediately apparent, just beyond the end of the geotextile layer: The train of 'bottom ballast' needed to be moved forward, to allow the diggers to access the last few wagons, so here it is, slowing running towards Exeter: The diggers can now get to work on those last few wagons: At the Plymouth end of the site, the next engineering train, loaded with concrete sleepers, is waiting for the bottom ballast to be completed, before being called forward to the site to begin unloading. The new rails had already been laid out in the four foot of the Down Main line: The old signal box looks a bit strange with just a single line running in front of it... Looking back towards Exeter from the Plymouth-end overbridge:
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted March 17, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 17, 2013 Wheres my beloved station gone ? Why wasn't I asked to do the ballasting either as I have experience here. CK in that last photo the overbridge doesn't have the slant on it had in the steam days.Has it been realigned since the station closed or is it the angle of the photo. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted March 17, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 17, 2013 Shame they're not putting back the platforms and branch connections at the same time. (and I understand you weren't on-site for the commissioning of our friendly neighbourhood ACOCL this morning Cap'n - now that truly would have been devotion to duty )

Hi Robin - it's just the angle of the photo, the slant is still exactly as it always was! Nice pics as usual CK.... is it an Exeter or crew on the 66...? Nidge - no such thing as Exeter DBS traincrew now - they're either St Blazey or Westbury men, in all probability...
Rugd1022
Blimey I didn't realise Exeter had shut! The Inspector who passed me out for driving was Nick Edwards of Exeter, I dare say he'll have gone to either BZ or WY then...
BRealistic
Do they use tea spoons to sprinkle the top ballast on once the track has been stuck in place with PVA... or do they use copydex to keep the noise down?

I doubt it but memories on how it used to look. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/45096-6814-enborne-grange/
