hi everyone

im new here so excuse me if i babble a bit

i recently found a picture of a class 76 in br blue with the old steam style crests but i didnt save it to my comp and now ive bought a kit to build a class 76 and i am wanting to paint it in the the livery described, but been un able to find the picture again i will have to paint it in another style when completed.

The only info i can remember about the picture is thta is was dated 1968, so if anyone has some info(or picture(s)) of which locos recived this treatment i would be gratefull

Not sure which period you are modelling , but 76022 went to the scrap yard in BR blue with "cycling lion" crests.

It was also notable for having some of the multi-working cables missing on one end towards the end of its working life.

Good reference books worth accquiring are : Book of the 76s & 77s by OPC , out of print now , and On the Woodhead Route , published by Ian Allen.

Just quickly perusing "On the Woodhead Route".

E26009 is pictured in this scheme in Feb 1970 , as is E26020 .

I also did a survey of the named locos a while ago for the 1968-1970 period (should you want one) , E26050 was pictured in this condition in 1969, with a small yellow warning panel.

There are many variations livery wise on class 76's, or EM1's as they were until TOPS renumbering. I and other members of the Deepcar crew have picked up lots of little snippets over the years.

Quite a few of them were painted in electric blue, possibly after Crewe took over their overhaul following the closure of Gorton works. These often carried the steam logo. As I understand it, I think Charlie Petty told me, 76022 was a Reddish depot repaint from green and they just painted round the steam style totem, so it actually had a green background.

Reddish did several repaints, perhaps they no longer went to Crewe for overhaul, but 22 was the only one not to wear the arrow of indecision.

There is quite a lot of information about this much lamented line and it's locos, worth picking up the various DVD's as well.

Charlie does frequent these parts from time to time and also if you have any specific questions I'll do what I can to help.
