They were all involved in the early days of the war, when they helped thwart the invasion of the British Isles (apart the Channel Islands of course) by the Hun. Stirling's didn't enter front-line service till 41. 5

Technically yes, but in actuality during the war no. Aircraft were being built at whatever factory had capacity or hadn't been bombed. The Stirling for example was being built at a total of 20 factories during the height of production (including Austin at Longbridge & Rootes at their 'Shadow' factory in Stoke on Trent). It's the same for the Halifax (which was built at Fairey among others).

A little filling to be done but overall a very clean build indeed. I've also fitted cast coupling hooks and with use the blackened hoops from Smith's on these. The Climax fire pumps are from the Oxford Diecast range and will be tied in at the end of the build. A few months back I completed the build and painting [Railmatch LMS enamel] of the Five79 kit of the LMS Long Low wagon. Here it is after transfers and weathering by @toboldlygoof this parish. The load will be fitted over the weekend. 21

The Five79 Long Low adds a bit of variety at pocket money prices. The Dapol/Airfix wagon bodies do give a few nice options when mated with a suitable Parkside/Ratio chassis. Looks like a proper job shunting session is required using a nice new Paneer. Cheers, Mark 3

I am currently working on the same, but I can't decide the best way to join the Peco/Parkside chassis to the Dapol body. How did you go about it please? The wagon floor included in the chassis kit is too narrow to be affixed to the bottom of the van sides. Cheers. CoY

If it's too sloppy a sliver of plasticard fixed with Tamiya Extra Thin does the job. 2
RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted May 15, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 15, 2021 So, is the bottom of the Dapol body open? The Airfix model from which it was presumably developed had an integral floor and a separate roof. John
