A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

Whilst searching for something else I stumbled across an old pair of B set coaches built years ago from Comet kits. These are the diagram E129 and I used them on my BLT long before Brent was considered. 8750 pannier tank 4679 does the honours. The coaches were also painted by myself and are cruel in close up but not too bad to a blind man on a galloping horse.

Thanks Neal!  No idea why it went upside down.  Came out right way up in the other places I’ve posted.  I’ll claim it was that way up to help out our Australian correspondents!

I thought it was Pendennis Castle before it returned to Didcot.

Odd to remark but my last trip on the footplate of 7029 was when we ran back light engine from Swindon to Didcot after working some Gloucester - Swindon specials (seen in my avatar picture for thse with a magnifying glass).  Idiot Fireman kept on chucking coal on - presumably because he wasn't paying for it and he was still shovelling some on as we passed Steventon - and he didn't have to drop the fire did he - guess who did.

This weekend, after doing bodgery with lectrics, I has mostly been gardening:

I thought model buses were meant to go on bridges.:scratchhead:

Hello chaps, apologies for the intrusion.

I picked these up recently, and wanted to know if one of you could advise the appropriate livery for 1947 condition (if they were still around then!)

Thanks in advance!

Sorry to be late in reply, but been otherwise engaged...

As said you have a few options:

All over brown

"jaded" chocolate and cream

"Austerity" brown is also plausible, however also doubtful.

and even Lake - but only on a summer season "special" or holiday relief: not for branch line regular traffic.    There have been a few mentions of lake stock in the late 40s on this site, and M.I.B Snr remembers clearly seeing Lake stock moving into and out of Swindon carriage sidings, reserved for use at extremely busy times.

I agree with previous posters too - footboards removed, lots of over plating.    Certainly realistic to see these vehicles around in some scenarios, but you'll need to do some modelling and adapting.

I have one or two in each of those each colour schemes for just such summer mainline workings in the 1947 period.
