Afternoon chaps, now don't judge me but thanks to a nudge from @BenL of this parish , a reasonably priced Ebay purchase and a top notch renumber/weathering job by @toboldlygo, we have some gesticulating valve gear for you to enjoy. A Swindon built LMS 8F getting ready for work.

And don't mention the heavily modified Eastleigh Arthur front steps - oops :jester::rolleyesclear:

What a splendid looking, well proportioned, solid looking locomotives these 8Fs are. Of course not as splendid as a S&DJR 7F but a good start all the same.

Well done.

I don’t think there were any Rods who’s home shed was Laira, but ive certainly seen references to them on the line.  2-8-0 Austerities on the other hand were common place.

I don’t know when Swindon modified them with fire iron tunnels and covered top feeds (but expect it was 48 or 49) so mine is currently wrong, one day I will back date it.  The model was one of those mistakes, buying a cheap example from eBay before realising the detail variations in the model.

I used wagon numbers from a HMRS sheet for the new numbers following the advice of Graham Muz (who has a blog post on it somewhere in time). And left the tender un branded.

What you need next is an Austerity or ROD loco.

i'm pretty sure that both RODs and austerities were sheded at Laira, whether both at the same time, I couldn't tell you.

There's a photo of ROD 3005 on the west of England mainline in Somerset in the Norman Lockett book. The train looks a similar job to my 8F's.

I noticed in the first two shots it seems as though your signal box roof has a slight curve Rob, maybe it could do with some of "that" unmentionable stuff to straighten it or maybe just a bit of glue ?
