A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

Last night, James Arthur was also singing in the rain.

I wouldn't have cared but

1. I could hear him :(

2. I was soaked :(

Dr. Aggedalong :(

It appears you were lucky.  If it hadn't been raining he'd have done two more songs!

I only found this article because I had to look up who you were talking about.  From what I can tell, he only did one song which wasn't a cover version of someone else's and the writer of the article seems to think the opening number was a cover of a song by The Fugees rather than being a cover of their cover of a song by The Delfonics.  Something tells me the reviewer had a Press Pass complete with free drinks and an umbrella.

I was slightly luckier than that. The people who dragged me there gave up and suggested leaving early a bit before that so we were away before he stopped. I am told it would have been polite to take a couple of milliseconds longer before agreeing. Apparently the night before his show in Yorkshire was cancelled due to the danger of thunderstorms. Another reason why I wish I still live in Yorkshire.

Tom Jone's  gig at York racecourse was cancelled for that reason too. He was on at Powderham Castle last week and the gig goers were moaning how long it took to exit the carpark at the end. Should have gone by boat then. :jester:

A narrow escape for all concerned, the old Shouting Welshman himself.

How much longer can these aging 'heartthrobs' keep on going?  As they age they lose their voice and their appeal; the smart ones quit while they're ahead or else they end up in some tribal casino over here or similar and continue on the downward path, just like Englebert Humperdinck and other singing grandpas of the past.

Brian.

I suspect, Brian, that they continue to get a buzz from it all. The roar of the greasepaint, the smell of the crowd, that sort of thing.

And what about grandmas? I think Brenda Lee is still singing, and she must be 74 this year.

All the time people buy tickets, these troupers will put heart and soul into an evening of reminiscent singing.

I can't see today's artists doing it as they make more money now than back in the day. You're a long time retired. Look at all the fuss created by Cher's minor role in the latest Mamma Mia.I still think you need some credibility and release something new and not just sing the same songs from 40 years ago.

I happen to think TJ is actually improving with age and his recent stuff including his work with Jools Holland really appeals to me.

The Tom and Jools stuff was brilliant - I actually attended the gig they did at 'Ammersmiff Pally and was blown away.

But that was 10+ years ago...............closer to 15 I think.

Yes, it doesn't seem quote the right thing for footplate wear.
