Yes- plastic drinking straw with a tiny ball of blue tack pushed in the ends. Someone is going to point out, of course, there should be two longitudinal cylinders.

Yep, I tossed a coin when I built mine. Came down tails instead of heads but I can't be bothered to change it now.

They're Comet cast cylinders I think. I only managed to fit three in.

What date was that taken!

I very often look through old pictures as it shows how much things have changed over the years

I don’t know about you and ANTB but I sometimes look at my layout and think I’ve not done much recently then looking at past pictures realise actually I have!

One thing you can say about GWR coaches unlike their locos they didn't look all the same. When ever I look at a photo of a GWR passenger train the variety of carriages does amaze me.

Last night, I made a start on using Worsley Works, sides and ends etc on a Hornby clerestory today. I surprised myself as how quickly it all went together as it now ready for final tidy up and painting. By this period all the D33 had the gas lighting removed so I had to cut away the gas tanks and replace with battery boxes made from plasticard. (non in stock and I wanted to progress) I do prefer having the panels compared to Hornby's flat sides. Worsley produced two variations of the plated over sections, so I have a second to produce.  If anyone is considering updating the Hornby, here is what the sides look like.

Mike, please could I ask how you approached the underframe trussing? Is it just wire and scrap etch, or is there a proprietary kit for GWR clerestory underframe trussing?

Cheers,

Just wire. I only replaced the truss as the original Hornby was broken in several places. On other clerestories, I file old rail to shape for the queen posts and solder wire for the trusses.

Nice work and very useful to see this Mike. Can I ask what period these sides are for? I can't quite make out from the Worsley list whether their replacement sides are only for the 1929 rebuild, or if they are also available for the 1900 and 1917 condition.
