Did the Manors and Granges ever come with a 4000 gallon tender at any time?Brian.

I might be wrong but I think of the two classes the Grange was more likely to have the larger tender.

When in BR service, Manors, no; Granges, yes.

Now watch someone prove me wrong!

Cheers,

BR(W).

Pedantry function ON. Warning!

Oh well, you did ask ;-)

Peto's Register of Great Western Locomotives Volume 2 "Manor 4-6-0" is the definitive reference on this.

7808 Cookham Manor was attached to a Collett 4000 gallon tender for a brief period in 1965. Swindon stopped keeping thorough records on tender allocations from 1963 onwards so information becomes somewhat sketchy. However Mr. Peto managed to turn up an extremely rare photo of 7808 towing said tender.

I believe that was the only time a Manor was coupled to that tender type before preservation.

Granges were much more promiscuous in the tender department (no pun intended!).  They were routinely attached to a wider assortment of tender than any other GWR class I can think of. One of them was even paired with a Hawksworth slab sided tender in the 60s (Penhydd Grange).

Pedantry function OFF.

Andy.

Would the GWR locos look better with yellow stripes? Discuss.

Hmmmmm. I can see response buttons marked "Like", "Thanks", "Agree". I can't see one marked "Heresy".......    ;-)

That's very close to naughty step territory.

You can't start messing about with the livery of the world's best locomotives,........

........ by putting it on lesser Western engines.

Nothing to do with your observation question Rob but did Brent ever have these at the end of each platform?

I fear the naughty step is going to be a little crowded, so we may have to... fetch... the... the... naughty chair.

What else can one do with such rebellious and provocative children?

Cheers,

BR(W).
