bertiedog
Not to mention two varieties of cattle wagons from Hornby, an L.S.W.R. brake van from D.J.Models and a B4 tank from Dapol .............. though the latter two have gone rather quiet of late ! The Dapol B4 has entered the Mystic Oriental Sanctuary of the believers in Eastern relative time structure in Chinese Factories, compounded by the Chinese Year being different to the West.....We know not what mysterious ceremonies and services are held over the CAD drawings, or it's rite of passage through to a 3d printed example, fabled for being prized by Model Magazine editors as evidence of the passage through the initiation rites, then to be taken to the Peoples Palace of Production (approved by the Chinese Communist Party Officials) to be completed, crated up and sold to the gullible west........ It's gona' to be a long time yet......... Stephen

Edwardian
Some mysterious Eastern destination where projects remain ever young, and, despite the passage of centuries, never mature? bertiedog
Oh well, the Great Dorset Steam Fair, that's all right then, we all go there......where else? Harrods food hall?.... so nice to have seen them then, but of course all the customers who have ordered them were warned they were there!........ Sorry to sound so cynical, but these teasers are plain ridiculous, they appear at one show, but not another, but rarely with a date to actually buy them. Still looks a long time off at present. Thank goodness Hornby got the LSWR coaches out in the meantime. Stephen
SRman
For those of us who cannot make it to any of the shows (I am approximately 10,000 miles away!), these 'teasers' are very welcome. The coaches look superb in those shots.

Jon Fitness
They look wonderful! The question from me is ...are they (with a bit lot of surgery) adaptable to represent the IOW SECR coaches? It's a bit frustrating to have such a lovely model of an Island 02 tank without anything suitable for it to pull.... JF

Secondly this is the first show that they have been at since the Engineering Prototypes arrived so hardly a case of them displaying them at one show then not another!

JF They will need quite a lot of surgery, as described elsewhere on this forum by chaps knowledgeable on Island history. Personally, I had thought that a different choice of prototype (only slightly shorter, I believe) would have had a wider appeal. PB
bertiedog
. bertirdog - if you can go The Great Dorset Steam Show is an excellent day out. I used to go regularly with my Austin car on display, but these days impossible due to illness leaving me pretty much house bound. It is just that maybe pressure on the makers will finally cure them of leaving customers out to dry whilst waiting for long promised goods, or limited supply that runs out before you have a chance to buy them. it has crept in since the late 70's the US inspired limited production runs and limited stocks, using no factories you run to make the goods. I am generalising and it certainly does not apply to the Model railway suppliers but with many companies shows a lack of respect to the customer. Fortunately the model world is not so important to people as vital goods are, and the specialist nature will lead to longer production times.

It's a bit frustrating to have such a lovely model of an Island 02 tank without anything suitable for it to pull.... JF Very difficult, if not impossible. The layout of the 60ft coaches is wrong for IOW conversion. Plus the coaches that went to the island were 54ft ' Ashford Gothic ' style vehicles, where the quarter lights and vertical mouldings were square at the bottom edge. They were rounded on the 60ft coaches. There may be room for ' artistic license ' if you wish. I had hoped that Bachmann would choose the 54ft ' Ashford Gothic ' type as all three coach types for one of these sets still exist. The two brakes on the KESR and the composite at Haven Street. But mainland BR era would not have possible for a livery option, as all survivors after war losses, army, and departmental were sent to the Island in a converted state. No Decorum
I wonder if Bachmann is considering another Wainwright of some description. Imagine the excitement if one came out at more-or-less the same time as these coaches.

Imagine the excitement if one came out at more-or-less the same time as these coaches. It would be nice - but given the current focus on clearing the backlog then I would be surprised if it happened. In the longer term though I would imagine a H tank is an obvious goal for Bachmann - particularly as Hornby's Southern railway based models have all been primarily western section stuff and thus there is less risk of duplication (the M7 and Adams radial fitting the small tank engine slots for example)

While I have no idea what the RRP for each scale is off the top of my head - the traditional marketing tactic is to break down a large lump sum into smaller more 'manageable' payments - even if the person still ends up paying the same (or more) in the end. Possibly, but Hornby did release their 'Somerset & Dorset' 3-set as a coach pack. Those low-window Maunsells, like these coaches, spent their careers as fixed formations. I don't think Bachmann have ever done anything similar but a coach pack would be the more logical way to sell the Birdcages. John
