pH
Not yet gone, but quite possibly to be soon, the last remaining all model railway shop in the Lower Mainland of BC: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/model-train-hobby-shop-1.6744729 (I know several people on here have visited it on trips to North America.)
andytrains
See latest Model Railway Journal, there is a whole page advert from 1958 of "K's" suppliers. I think out of the list there only Howes still going, unless somebody can correct me. Edited February 12, 2023 by andytrains

Model shops have always been a specialist retailer (even when most young boys watched trains and wanted model railways) so there haven't been too many chains of shops; the vast majority are sole traders/family businesses. When the proprietor retires, the chances of someone in the same town being both interested (and ready to take over at that time) are slim, so the business closes. You'd probably find the same statistic if you looked at haberdashery shops in the late 50s compared to now.
