Search for livery dates for 59004 / 59005 / 59101 / 59102 / 59203 / 59206

Hi,

With the layout plan changed, the focus is off the GM-EMD products.

Not intending to do away with all my Class 59's, but will keep only 6.

Using them on the occasional fictitious railtour, even though they are RA7 and the route on the layout RA6.

I've decided to keep the following fleet, with the last TOPS digits ending 1-6 :

59101 in Hanson livery, named Village of Whatley on 09/05/92.

59102 in original ARC livery, named Village of Chantry on 15/09/91.

59203 in EWS livery, named Vale of Pickering on 02/09/95 ( with or without the large number on the front ).

59004 in revised Foster Yeoman livery, named Paul A Hammond on 21/06/96 ( simply my pet loco as I love it ).

59005 in original Foster Yeoman livery, named Kenneth J Painter on 25/06/89, additional record plate on 03/08/91.

59206 in National Power livery, named Pride of Ferrybridge on 28/06/97.

The layout will be run in a few specific years, all set in Autumn October.

I'm trying to establish in what Octobers ( years ) these 5 prototype loco's were in the specific guises of the models, but am having a hard time.

The very limited search system of Fotopic doesn't really help here.

Anyone able to supply answers ?

  • Would like to know when 59101 gained its Hanson livery.
  • Would like to know when 59102 got into traffic and when it lost its ARC livery.
  • Would like to know when 59203 gained its EWS livery and when it gained the large number on one front end.
  • Would like to know when 59004 gained its revised FY livery.
  • Would like to know when 59005 got into traffic and when it lost its original FY livery.
  • Would like to know when 59206 got into traffic and when it lost its National Power livery.

Thanks in advance for any help / answers.

Regards, Michel

P.S.

Expect any surplus 59's in the Classifieds soon, plus other stock surplus to requirements.

I can help on a couple of your questions...

59005 arrived in the UK on 4th June 1989 and entered traffic sometime during the same month.

59102 arrived in the UK on 20th October 1990 and entered traffic on 11th November the same year.

59206 arrived in the UK on 4th August 1995 and entered traffic sometime during the October of the same year.

59005 had certainly lost it's original FY livery by the OOC open day in 2000, indeed from what I can find most (if not all) of the original liveries were revised around 1998/99.

Hi Michel, hope you're well.

The class 59s - ah a pet topic of us both! Let's see what I can work out

59101 - Revised ARC didn't last long at all, being gained by June 98, October 14 1999 being the latest confirmed date I can find. By Sep 2000, the loco was in Hanson, and looked like it had been for a while, judging by the grime build up on it

59102 - still ARC March 99, April 2000 pretty shiny Hanson http://amiddlemass.fotopic.net/p16385739.html The paint hadn't yet burnt off the exhaust, but the underframe looks a bit grubby, so I'd guess around 6 months or so in Hanson at this point

59203 - all the EWS livery 59s were repainted pretty quickly over summer 98 - certainly 201 was done by June, the latest I've seen a photo of a National Power 59 is April 98. 59203 appeared at Toton open day at the end of August 98 in EWS livery. No idea on the big numbers though sad.gif

59004 - this was the last 59 to lose original Yeoman, which was some time between April 2001 and June 2002. The photos of it in June 02 show it virtually ex works, though it did work a Mendip/Yeoman/Hanson staff railtour, so loco condition could be misleading here. I haven't got time to scour fotopic at the moment, but at least in narrows down the time frame a bit

59005 got repainted into revised Yeoman in 1998, just in time for the open day in June, as was 001. 005 was the first done, and retained red and white OHLE flashes for a while. 001 had the post-98 yellow style from repaint. Both appeared at the open day in revised livery.

59206 - mainly as per 203, photos of it in EWS in Sept 98. Looks around a month or so old in terms of weathering.

A quick note too regarding the original Yeoman livery, due to mid-90s repaints, the height of the orange cantrail stripe, and the appearance of the stars on the bufferbeam are very variable, and worth checking for a particular loco in a particular year, if you are modelling to this level of detail.

HTH

cheers
