The Wansbeck ran today, 30th March 2013 from Newcastle to Morpeth then over the Blyth and Tyne to Marchey's House and North Blyth folowed by a run to Newcastle.  It then made its way to Saltburn via Durham and then back to Newcastle.

Locos were K1 62005 and K4 619994 The Great Marquess, top and tailed.

As it was a sunny morning and a bit less cold I decided to go and look at the train just north of home, at Winning, Freeman's Crossing and North Blyth.

Distant view of 62005 nearing site of Cambois depot (train going away).  Track to right led to Blyth Power stations.

62005 at North Blyth  61994 at far end of train.  Rio Tinto Alcan terminal at North Blyth in distance, still used by alumina trains to Fort William.  The siding which serves the coal import terminal at North Blyth part of Blyth harbour is behind me to the right.

Train going down the hill to Cambois

I didn't follow it any further, it was time to go home for coffee, just over ten minutes away!

Some nice shots there, you really got lucky woth the weather! All week it's been uniformly grey with  brief interludes of freezing rain, sleet, hail and snow! Bracing indeed!

I had no idea this was running and was delighted to see it drift past through Stockton at the very moment I stepped out of my father;s house! I saw the lead loco go through watched the train and didn't bother reaching for my camera (in my pocket) and then the second loco went through (I think it was K4 "The Great Marquess" trailing?) Double Drat!

Thanks for sharing.

Great pics Dave.  I also had no idea this steam special was running on the Blyth & Tyne and  to my favourite location, Alcan North Blyth!

K1s were, of course, a common site at North Blyth back in the day.
