Here's a picture of a Southern Pacific and Union Pacific train in Carlin, Nevada. Both trains are in the open desert. Carlin is along the Interstate 80(I-80) freeway in northeastern Nevada, about midway between Reno and Salt Lake City(a 520-mile/832-kilometer distance).

I did a double take when I saw this picture as I initially thought "Hang on, that's an angled blower duct so it can't be a GP40-2, it must be a GP60"!

But no, it IS a GP40-2, it seems there was a small series of them with said angled blower ducts - that would be an interesting variation to model.

Cheers,

John.

Edit: It appears that all/most from 724X, 725X, 726X up until 7273 were so treated.

Here's a couple more pictures of a Union Pacific train in Lake Point, Utah. Lake Point is a suburb of Salt Lake City on the southern shore of the Great Salt Lake.

Lovely pictures, we drove past there just over a year ago. Unfortunately  I didn't have time to stop and wait for a train to come.

Here's a beautiful sunrise picture of a Metrolink commuter train in Riverside, California. The train is bound for Downtown Los Angeles during the morning rush hour period. In the left side of the picture, the traffic is starting to get heavy on the Riverside Freeway(California State Route 91; "The 91"). Riverside is about 60 miles(96 kilometers) east of Los Angeles.

Here's a beautiful picture of a Amtrak California Zephyr train in Emigrant Gap, California. The train is traversing the Donner Pass area alongside the Interstate 80(I-80) freeway. Emigrant Gap is about 70 miles(112 kilometers) northeast of Sacramento and about 60 miles(96 kilometers) southwest of Reno, Nevada.

Here's a picture of a BNSF Railway train in Ludlow, California. The train is moving through the Mojave Desert. The traffic is driving on the Needles Freeway(Interstate 40 or I-40) in the background. Before Interstate 40 was built, the main highway motorists took through Ludlow was U.S. Route 66("The Mother Road"). Ludlow is about 50 miles(80 kilometers) east of Barstow and about 165 miles(264 kilometers) northeast of Los Angeles.

Here's two pictures of a Amtrak California Capitol Corridor train in Benicia, California. The train is crossing the Benicia-Martinez Bridge over the Carquinez Strait. The Benicia-Martinez Bridge is a series of bridges that crosses the Carquinez Strait between the cities of Benicia and Martinez. The northbound and southbound lanes of the Interstate 680(I-680) freeway is part of this bridge group. The Benicia-Martinez railroad bridge is the second-longest bridge in North America and the longest bridge west of the Mississippi River. Benicia and Martinez are suburbs in the Bay Area(San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose).
