It's worth exploring the whole page too as there are some stunning photos here: http://www.railphoto-art.org/collections/bjorklund/chicago-and-north-western/#!

Cheers,

John.

CN along Seton Lake in BC: http://www.railpictures.net/photo/666664/

The Kaoham Shuttle - https://www.flickr.com/photos/unclegal/14882460258 is now the only passenger train to operate along this section of track.

In a previous job, one of my sons got to travel this line (the former BC Rail line from North Vancouver to Chetwynd) on foot and by speeder. Having under-estimated the time it would take to walk a section one day, in the late afternoon the CN employee travelling with them flagged down a freight to get them into the next town. I was most jealous!

We travelled on the penultimate BC rail RDC service from North Vancouver to Prince George back in 2002. Was a great trip for a long weekend from the UK as only had two days leave left for the trip.

Maryhill is where there is a completed mini Stonehenge

A couple of years ago, the results of an attempt to photograph a BNSF westbound from that 'henge' (it's high on the hill above the BNSF line on the north bank of the Columbia) convinced me I needed to buy a better camera!

I also tried to photo a train with Stonehenge in the shot  but there were no trains due to a maintenance window

Weird California scenery - scenes from Star Trek V: The Final Frontier were filmed in this area.

That's a fascinating photo of the Trona railway.  IIRC Searles is a branch that runs sort of north east from Mojave then the Trona railway carries on to the mines for quite  along way.  Trains had a fabulous long article in the 70's I think called RX for a broken jawbone" The jawbone is on the branch and there was a tunnel with lots of wooden supports that caught fire. It was going to take several months to sort it so SP reinstated a very steeply graded and curved shoofly that had been used to bypass the tunnel during construction days.  There were some fabulous photos of rows of SD45's pulling the Trona trains over the shoofly.

Have a look at Red Hill/ Redhill Tunnel, just south of Trent Junction. (52.8719782, -1.2649660)

Could easily have curved left of the outcrop, without affecting the speed of running, and it dates back to 1838!

Here are some pictures of Glenwood Canyon between Denver and Grand Junction, Colorado. The Interstate 70(I-70) freeway and the Colorado River traverses this canyon. Union Pacific(formerly Rio Grande, then Southern Pacific), BNSF, and Amtrak all utilizes the Glenwood Canyon for transcontinental travel. I have driven through this canyon a lot of times within the last two decades(mostly as a professional truck driver).
