Not up to the standard of the previous shots but in the same area. I was on a cycling tour in 2005 and this shows the mid train helpers on an eastbound coal train in Glenwood Canyon just west of Bair Ranch.

Taken with a little point and press Pentax film camera that I'd had to buy after my Olympus OM1 dropped out of my bar bag outside Laramie. Out of interest my Avatar was taken two days earlier at the summit of Boreas Pass.

Some more from my 2005 cycling tour. Unfortunately they are not very good scans. I will try to correct now that I've got a decent scanner. The first 3 were taken with the OM1 and it got dropped after the 3rd.

First a shot from the top of Archer Hill looing west down over Cheyenne and the Sherman Hills in the background. This is the only serious grade for eastbounds from Cheyenne.

Next a shot from near the Ames Monument which is at the top of the first Sherman Summit before the line was relocated by Harriman in 1910. Dale Creek embankment can be seen in the distance behind the left hand antelope.

While taking that I thought I hear a rattlesnake and wondered how to protect myself on a pushbike but it turned out to be a rather load cricket.

Next a westbound drops down into Laramie alongside what I think from memory is Soldier Road. The eastbound track is some distance to the west.

two days later after buying my new camera I was going from Boulder to Golden and stopped at Rocky where the Moffatt pass line goes under the road. Here an eastbound coal train is dropping down the hill round what I think is Big ten Curve.

If abandoned railroads are allowed, here is one of the approach to Boreas Pass from the South. At this point I was at about 10,300 feet with just another 1200 to climb to get to the summit. The track used to be the Denver South Park and Pacific and closed in 1938. The shot was taken from the old trackbed at Rocky point and the old bunkhouse at the summit can be seen. There used to be a shed at the summit, it can't have been a very nice place in winter.

Nice pictures, Jamie. I had driven through Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming within the last two weeks. Southeastern Wyoming is a good place to watch Union Pacific trains.

Thanks Wendell. I've been to the area five times now and love it. In 2005 I did the mad male menopause thing of cycling in the area and trained for the high passes by going from Denver to Cheyenne then over to Laramie and back to Boulder over 1o days before heading for Kenosha, Boreas and vail passes and ended up at Glenwood Springs. I've been a UP fan since I was about 10 and love the area. Hopefully I will be back there this year as part of a ruby wedding trip and hope to see 4014 in action.

Here's a couple more pictures of San Clemente, California. This time it is with Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner doing the show. I rode on the Amtrak train down this route many years ago when the train was branded as the "San Diegan."(in 1987)

More pictures of the Los Angeles area. Both of these pictures are the Santa Fe Railway's(ATSF) 4-8-4 steam locomotive with a train heading from Los Angeles to San Bernardino. In the first picture, the train is in the median of the San Bernardino Freeway(Interstate 10 or I-10) in suburban Alhambra, California. Metrolink runs its commuter trains down this section of track. In the second picture, the train is in suburban Covina, California.

Here's a couple more pictures of Las Vegas. This time it's the Las Vegas Monorail being featured. In the first picture, the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel is towering over the train. In the second picture, the Wynn Resort is towering over the train with the Trump International Hotel in the background. The Las Vegas Monorail runs on the east side of the Las Vegas Strip(Las Vegas Boulevard).

A Union Pacific locomotive switching the cars off of a barge at Harbor Island in Seattle, Washington. The Alaska Railroad(ARR) owns this barge and it provides the best way to interchange cars with other railroads. The ARR interchanges with the BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad out of Seattle. The ARR interchanges with the Canadian National Railway out of Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

Sound Transit's Central Link light rail train running adjacent to the Interstate 5(I-5) freeway in Seattle. The train had just left from Seattle/Tacoma International Airport and heading towards Downtown Seattle(the tall skyscrapers in the background). The iconic Space Needle is also in the background(to the left of the skyscrapers).

Here's a picture of Amtrak's Texas Eagle train running through trees in East St. Louis, Illinois. The train just crossed the Mississippi River(Missouri/Illinois border) from the regular St. Louis, Missouri. Downtown St. Louis, Missouri is in the background along with The Gateway Arch monument.
