Poor Old Bruce
Ian, According to the books by Jenkinson/Essery and Lacy/Dow, LMS 38470 was a former Midland Railway 5 Ton Milk and Fruit Van of Diagram 419, one of 30 built to Lot 592 in 1903. They are described as "Fruit and Milk Vans with three compartments - square panelled, low eliptical roof design." 118 vehicles were built to the diagram (although the last 20 built in 1918 may have had rounded panels) including 12 for the S&DJR in 1901 (going to the Southern in 1930). They were 25ft long over the end panels and 8ft 6in wide over the panels on a 16ft wheelbase. Your picture should show three pairs of doors each side with louvres in each LH door, also four louvred panels in the ends. They were withdrawn by 1943. Am I right? jwealleans
Jim McGeown used to do a kit for this vehicle in 4 and 7mm but he doesn't seem to list it any more.
Poor Old Bruce
Jim McGeown used to do a kit for this vehicle in 4 and 7mm but he doesn't seem to list it any more. Not quite. If that is Connoisseur Models, his is to Diagram 418, the version with round cornered panels and arc roof.
jwealleans
I thought the 4mm one I have was D419, but I may be wrong. I can't find either on his website.
