here's an update of the loco kind.

dan has very kindly been doing some work to my Bachmann mpv. he has made some new modules for me and added led lights to the modules and also given it a weather based on some photos i took of an mpv set that i recently saw stabled at didcot. here is some pics of the results.

My thanks go to dan. He is an excellent weatherer.

I should have an update soon. Haven't had chance to do much modelling in last few weeks. For everyone whose been following the next pictures will be of the most drastic stage of the layout modification. Cutting in half to start the process of physically converting from roundy to fiddle yard to terminus.

Fingers crossed it goes ok.

had a good day on the railway today (12in/1ft). Rode on FGW HST, FGW 150 and FGW 153 all in one day. (fgw 153 is going to be my next repaint job) Also saw ARRIVA XC 220 and 221 today.

I see you're having a very stressful holiday ;-)

From message yesterday, i work an 8 day week, current one finishes Monday morning so 2 weeks time i will be on a day shift, but after that (end of August?!) should be fine......possible risk of clashing with wedding aniversary, something tells me mrs Satan may not be to forgiving with that, so could end up being a weekend again! If i stop smiling i may go crazy....

The stress of railway research, what little I've had chance to do is overwhelming. Soundsike your life is v busy atm. Annoying thing for me is its only 3 days holiday left.

Glad and relieved that's out the way. Now onto reinforcing the newly exposed edges then removal from existing support structure and installation on new one once wood purchased.

Thats some "cutting" Phill :butcher:

yeah it was pretty intense, but necessary. i'm glad when i designed the layout i massively overengineered the support structure. it may make it heavy but it means ive been able to majorly cut into the layout and it hasnt shifted at all and i have no problems with track. may have been completely differnt from normal but board support and bracing out of 38x66mm wood has its advantages

here's some more pics of some trackwork i've done today hopefully they convey the layout i've gone for and why.

its different from what was in the rough plan a few pages back but i decided to turn the head shunt into another access to the main line so that freight can more easily be processed and moved in the yard

Good to see progress, i think you could do with a good de-clutter soon! what's the big hole beneath the Y point in the last pic for?

old hole i put in for poinjt motor that never got put in and never got filled. de-clutter definitely needed but layouts been like that for better part of two three months. i may even get to run a train before christmas

also did some work to yard surface and put in some cross bracing underneath the new points featured in an earlier post to act as places to attach legs at that end of the layout

Looks good with the wood edging.....you appear to have got some saw-dust on your stock boxes!....

the whole layout needs a good dusting as does a fair bit of rolling stock (no locos) but i've alot to do before i get to that stage.

As layout is now well into the change process the 'grange' that gave the layout part of its name is no longer part of the layout. I'm thinking of renaming the layout.

All suggestions welcome. please let me know you ideas

thanks

phil

How about 'Plympton-mid-Town'

or PMT for short.

If i was to provide a sensible option (which i really struggle to do), i might suggest 'Plympton South Gate'. Not sure why, it just has a ring to it. But that's too sensible so I'm not going to suggest it.
