Some readers may have seen a D 265 TL on my workbench for the last few weeks.  This has been produced in card by Gazman424 of this parish.

It's a combination of laser cut card and 3D printed components.  I added roof (MJT), wheels, glazing, buffers, end jumpers and door handles.

You can see more pictures on my thread, but it's gone together nicely.  Gaz does a few of these, teak vehicles included.  It's much lighter than a brass built vehicle, which may be an advantage for some people.  Drop him a PM if interested.

Following on from the post at the top of this page, 51L have had the next kit, diagram 20, available for a little while.   I had occasion to order last week so I had one and I spent a happy hour yesterday putting it together.  Final details this morning and here it is.  Very straightforward, everything fitted with virtually no flash and apart from the axlebox I wrecked drilling it out, no problems.

... and for completeness, here it is finished.

Wizard announced a GC Loco Coal wagon just before new year, so I'll be giving that a go soon.

I see Worsley Works are advertising Coronation, West Riding and Silver Jubilee etches.

Knowing how Allen usually works, I'm guessing they're a commission.  has anyone built or seen a built set?   I'm sure lots of people would like to know more.

There are some comparisons of end profiles here:

They are listed in the 2mm scale section, but I suspect that they could be scaled up if needs be. Allen is always approachable and helpful via email (and has been when I've seen him at shows!)

I've built several of his 009 scratch aid etches, and they are certainly well produced, but do require some extra effort and thought to get to a full kit standard, but the basics are certainly there as a canvas to add one's own level of detail to.

As an example, this is a Ffestiniog carriage as built from the etches, and then after I've made an interior, roof and added other details ready for painting.

I do keep looking at the NER clerestory coaches as well, and I suspect that once my D&S one is complete, I might well succumb to one or two to compliment it.

A streamlined artic set would be lovely though!

Cheers

I think I mentioned the 51L GC Loco Coal wagon not too long ago.  It arrived on Friday.

Pretty straightforward but one trap for the unwary - the brakes have to go on the opposite way round to usual.   Unlike a Morton fitting, the lifting link goes on the same side as the brakes.  I didn't spot that when I read the destructions and by the time the penny dropped they were too firmly fixed to remove without risk of destruction.  So feel free to get over that pitfall by walking over my prone form....

Dave Scott has just brought this to my attention, from a manufacturer with whom I'm not familiar: NER Type C1 signalbox as a laser cut kit from Dexter's Cove Models.

I see there's already feedback from one customer; perhaps if he or anyone else sees this they'd care to comment here?

I am building one at present.  Going together quite nicely.  the sides have spaced bricks so you have to put the right sides together.  The steps are a work of art.  They supply a sheet of tiles for the roof which go on a flat plastic part.  Fitting the windows next, very nice but being resin quite fragile.

It is a nice kit, still a bit to finish off but nearly there.

Do you have an image from the rear, I'm interested to see how the chimney and  fireplace fit.  Thanks!

I've been watching this seller increase their O gauge range on ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/floyd_kraemer/m.html - straight away there's a few useful bits for 7mm modellers, but the other day I asked if they were able to re-scale to 4mm.

These arrived today (Ignore the NER body, it's all I had to hand to give a quick trial fit):

LNER Bucket seats (low and high back versions):

Heavy duty dynamos (2 types):

And also representation of seating for the D30E restaurant car (will need plasticard tables and I just spotted I put the beading on some to the outside instead of the middle):

I don't think this is a D30E but the seating appears similar - this photo was used to get the approximate shape:

The seats may need tweaking on the outside edges to take into account the tumblehome but they look really good.

Paul said he is open to further requests in either scale.

Do the dynamos not come with brackets?

Good point, I hadn't looked that closely at them yet. As they are scaled down from 7mm I assume it's easier for accurate brackets to be made for those. The mounting brackets appear to be as per the full size variant but would need drilling through and need a bracket making to swing it off. I will ask about the possibility of incorporating the mounting hardware.

Ok, dynamos - Paul has come up with two options - firstly increase the mounting hole size so a bracket can be fitted:

And secondly include the bracket - and these actually include a stabilising bracket on both sides - the idea being remove the one that isn't needed so they can be mounted in any position under the coach. I much prefer this method - do others agree?

This is what it looks like with one side removed:

Thoughts? :)
