RMweb Gold BoD Posted May 5, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2016 (edited) Very thoughtful of them to welcome the drivers to Lowestoft. Perhaps it should read 'Lowestoft welcomes careful drivers'. Edited May 5, 2016 by BoD

RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted May 5, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 5, 2016 and some more from last night, didnt get many as it was a quick turn around as i dont sign any of the route, or indeed ever been over any of it as a passenger i was conducted over the whole lot, the line out to lowestoft wasnt what i was expecting at all, i was expecting to see billiard flat fens, straight stretches of track for miles on end but in reality what i saw (as best you can in the dark at 2am) was an undulating line, lots of curves and an awful lot of crossings! some interesting things pointed out on route such as the remains of halesworth revolving platform, the end of the platform was on a turntable that spun towards the (now closed) road when trains werent running to allow cars through some interesting signals down there too, woodbridge has a series of driver operated crossings that are worked by a plunger and the associated stop signal has a white light built in to it that flashes to proceed, its one of those new flat faced LED signals, first and probably only one i'll ever see peterborough, ready to depart ipswich, changing ends lowestoft, depression bars fitted to the tracks, i stopped short of them but it meant the loco was out of the light at the top end for decent pics, i got a few on my proper camera which i'll upload when i get home we came back via bacon factory curve at ipswich which meant the 37 was leading all the way back to peterborough where i left it this morning all set to go home after a rest but just had a phone call to go to barnetby tonight to relieve another IM train to immingham and back to doncaster via the world!
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted May 6, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 6, 2016 and so to the pics from the proper camera, still not happy with it, picture that i would have got really crisp with the old camera look a bit shoddy with the sony, time to look for a "new" fujifilm again i recon, i'm dissapointed with what should have been nice crisp clear night time shots coming out all soft focus and darker than the viewfinder screen shows me once uploaded, anyway here they are, unedited, i will upload some of the better ones to flickr and tidy them up on there (link in my signature below) Lowestoft trip. ipswich Lowestoft i was all set to go home after that job but got a call to see if i could cover another IM job round doncaster which involved picking it up at barnetby, over to immingham, through various lines in donny station, decoy, st caths etc, caught the train from peterborough to donny Barnetby back to Doncaster back to marshgate back to doncaster (via st caths, low ellers and Up decoy yard) and stabled and as an added bonus this was sat in the station, absolutely stunning looking unit close up, a new 800 class and that was that, Bangor tonight with a pair of 70s

RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted May 8, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 8, 2016 esterdays return working from gaerwen to crewe, i was booked to relive at bangor but as it was running a bit late off site and i was running early i met it at gaerwen which is where the worksite marker boards were, had about an hour to kill while there so i grabbed some pics from the track and had a play with the zoom on the camera gaerwen box complete with still functional postbox view from the track, obviously under possession so safe to do so a position light to nowhere which used to control the entrance to the old amlwch branch and looking back towards bangor the branch went off into this bracken following the line of the fence you can see, the track is still in situ beyond here and while i was waiting for my train i had a play with the zoom in the sunshine see the bird in the tree then my train arrived and after getting permission to leave off to basford hall where i ran the lead loco round to the rear in readyness for the other 2 locos from todays train to join them later stored/scrap 47 and 90

CazRail
Was on the worksite today, the train that went in today with 66848 and 66850 will go back loaded later on today. Can't see why it'll be late today as the job is practically done. So they used Gaerwen's crossover road to go from the down to the up. Rare for that to get used nowadays! RMweb Gold big jim Posted May 8, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 8, 2016 The signaller said it was the first time he'd used it yesterday, certainly the first time I've used it since 2007 too It had to be clipped and scotched just in case but he can't get the road across without dropping the barriers first so they were down for a good 10 mins while they did that and obtained permission for me to exit the worksite into Picop land, luckily it's not a busy road
CazRail
It's good to see them getting used. Todays trains left nearer to time. Crossing keeper at PG flagged it through again.
