That’s me until Saturday, on a job in Runcorn

I think that's a container flat, if I remember correctly they are designed to carry weighty, irregularly shaped items which won't overhang the dimensions of the base. The item(s) are securely lashed to the strengthened base and covered with sheeting. The end stanchions are the same size as a standard container which allows it to be loaded into the guides on a container ship.

I thought you had been while watching the signals on opentraintimes. Still I'm happy, the engine is working hard.....maybe not quite as much as the coal train yesterday, that was great being so late! But you were quiet in the morning though :D Thanks again

How does the Dellner coupling lift up into position Jim, is it manually lifted by the shunter or some sort of Hydraulics? Looks a heavy old beast! Also is the 56 only fitted at one end or is it a removable adaptor?

It’s manually lifted into position by more than one guy!

I assume it can be removed, there is an extra plate below it on the locos that it rests on when lowered

I do keep suggesting it to them for reasons like tonight, last minute cover

i used to go round there and over to Buxton and hindlow (conducted) with the IM trains with colas so I do have previous experience of the route, it’s hardly taxing, the main thing is the shunt moves around the quarries

The power station was Meaford; unusually, it was supplied both by BR wagons and CEGB 21-tonners. these resembled standard 21t minerals, but had no doors in either sides or ends. They'd been built prior to WW2 for the Midlands Electricity Authority; unlike similar wagons, they never got absorbed into the Pool fleet, nor were they taken over by BR.

I have a friend who modelled the North Staffordshire Railway. His layout had (maybe still has) a very nice model either of Stone or of another very similar station on the line. Rather nicer than the bus shelters BR specialised in.

And was the front end of the milling train designed to look aggressive?
