Is that the original City of Truro? If so it was the first 47 I saw, it came to Truro to be named and stood out like a sore thumb amongst all the hydraulics.

According to class47.co.uk, yes it is.  Nameplate removed in 1988; original name restored in 2016.  It had other names in between.

Whether it is the original plates or reproduction isn’t stated, but the typeface looks like the old ones to me.

Pre-1988, a late friend of mine stop-watched City of Truro at 117mph descending Stoke bank on a railtour.

back on it tonight to Cambridge via Royston and a bit more of the north london line to south acton

Some from yesterday, during the day I walked from the hotel to parliament hill in Hampstead Heath to see the view 

 

when I got there it was lovely 

 

Then the wind got up and a huge black cloud came over however it didn’t actually touch the Heath but went over the city 

 

it looked amazing to see the landmarks such as the post office tower and the shard just disappear into the downpour 

 

 

And then 20 minutes later totally clear again!

 

on the way back I walked past a very spooky looking Highgate cemetery, just googled it and wish I’d have gone and had a look in there now! 

 

and into the evening, off to Cambridge this time

I have often said that other countries have climates. We have weather. And when we in Ireland on holiday every possible option seemed to happen before lunch. Some nice suggestions for backscenes there.

I still remember my old Geology teacher, (who did his wartime service as a meteorologist, so also taught climatology), commenting. 'Boys; there are those who would say Wales has a terrible climate. This is manifestly not true. The climate is wonderful; it's the *****y weather that's terrible'

Yeah that was me, got on there back to derby, DBSO leading thankfully, not in a 37 mood this morning!

Got stopped at clay mills while a couple of trains went past including a charter from Birmingham international to Harrogate, still from a video taken with the camera lens what poking out of the side window!

and into the RTC to stable, I then went hire car back to Oxford to my hotel and tonight it’s a class 7 (45mph max) hinksey to St. John’s Wood area on the chiltern, will feel fast compared to the 30mph I had to do the chiltern line at last Monday night!

How long has that car carrier been in Small Heath yard?  Have got a memory of cars being loaded in the yard.  Was there a single deck one abandoned there too?

The single deck one is still there, closer to bordesley pretty much under the big over bridge

Like the views from Hampstead Heath, its on my doorstep so have gone up their a lot over the past 18 months. Occasionally I am lucky at get to view or in the case of 37's hear freight trains passing through.

ready to leave, 90 mins late but didn’t matter as I was booked to sit in Oxford parkway for 4 hours due to a possession in front of me!

 

had to wait for a jubilee line train to pass by to illuminate the loco!

 

and back in hinksey and run round

Some from tonight, did a bit of 196 testing, had another driver with me refreshing the units so he took it back to Tyseley for me which is a bonus as I have to do the job myself for the next 2 nights so nice to get an early finish as it’s quite a demanding job with lots to do while testing

I get the same feeling when I see many modern cars. I think it is something to do with the linear LED side lights, but not all. Are they and the trains meant to look aggressive?
