Brian Harrap
Hello Howard, remember this?
railwayrod
Hi Brian. Ah I remember it well. This was taken in the very early days of the workshop part of the garage which was almost ready for layout building. Gosh I cannot remember how long ago that was but many thanks for the memory. I am sure Howard will recall this event. Rod

HSB
Hair today - gone tomorrow! My parting's a bit wider now! I remember that, Brian, I think it was at the grand official opening of Rod's railway room in the garage. He certainly had quite a collection of LGB coaches!
HSB
A little bit more work done on the backscene:- 3
HSB
Nearly two months since my last update but only another little bit of the backscene done in this time. I've had to do this bit twice as I forgot to seal the back of the photo paper the first time and the glue soaked through and made some of the ink run slightly!
HSB
While Rod was off gallivanting down in Cornwall last week I thought it was about time I started work on the loading dock and goods shed on Brückenheim! The basic shape of the platform and ramp can now been seen in the photos below. The first is an aerial shot with the second a more normal view. I haven't finished the station building yet as I'm contemplating adding some lighting which will need to be done before I put the roof on.
HSB
I have now got the basic loading dock assembled. The goods shed will eventually sit on the left.
HSB
I'm slowly making progress with the loading dock with some Slater's embossed stone stuck to the front. I now need to make some steps for the ends.
HSB
A bit more progress with steps now on one end.
HSB
I've now got some steps on the other end and I have marked the position of the proposed 4.5m x 10m goods shed on the top of the platform.
HSB
I have now built a cardboard mock-up of the goods shed to get a better idea what it will finally look like.
HSB
A couple of new purchases arrived from Germany a few days ago. Having started work on a goods dock with end-loading I realised I didn't have any vehicles with end doors so I have now remedied that. I have also bought a small ready-made workshop made by Model Scene although it is described on the box as a 'Country Station'. I have just plonked it down where I had planned to put it but may move it somewhere else eventually.
HSB
No more progress on the layout since my last post but I have been putting some stock on it so I can take a few snaps.
Brian Harrap
Starting to look quite nice Howard. B
HSB
Well, after a very long hiatus, I've actually done something on Brückenheim with a light now mounted over the station door. I bought this at the Thornbury exhibition a few weeks ago and i have now glued it into position after repainting the underside of the shade white and the rest in satin black (it was originally all gloss black). I also reduced the size of the mounting plate slightly. It was made for 00 but works well in 0. 4
47606odin
Hi Howard. Having just gone through this thread, alas missing lots of pictures, I too have started looking at the German locos. Have I got bought a load of Z scale to have a table top layout and looking at the quality, and watching a few (well quite a few actually) videos on YouTube, I have considered what’s next after Hither Green, and I am looking at Germany. the Lenz locos look superb, and I wish some of the websites translate into English better otherwise I may well have succumbed already. A V60 might be nice, sort of continental class 14 feel about it but wonder if it would be nice to build a small shunting plank layout or part of a roundhouse with a turn table. A shame I can’t find something like a BR89 in O as some of the larger locos are currently out of my price range and space
47606odin
Well, that’s gone and done it, I’ve bought a V100 and 2 wagons!
HSB
I believe the Class 14 was based on the V60. 1

HSB
After another longish gap I've actually got around to doing a bit more to Brückenheim! There was a hole in the scenery at one end of the station where I originally planned to put a house but have now decided it would be better just covered in vegetation so I have instead built it up a bit and it's now about ready for a coat of plaster
HSB
I've now done the plastering including extending the outcrop of rock along the ridge. I've also started to modify the house in the background which is loosely based on one I photographed in Kamp Bornhofen. Unfortunately after shrinking it to fit the layout I found the proportions didn't look quite right so I am raising the height of the dormer roof which will allow me to raise the height of the window by a scale 45 to 50cms. Just a thin card mock up so far to test the principle.
RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted October 2, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2022 (edited) Interesting to use that kind of perspective for a backscene. It adds a sense of extra depth. Edited October 2, 2022 by Mikkel Typo 1
HSB
The front is now finished and painted. I now need to put a new roof on.
HSB
I think it looks a bit better proportioned now. I just need to get hold of some more slates to stick on the roof.
