RMweb Premium Peter Beckett Posted May 21, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 21, 2013 Recently the Boss and I were at a conference at Ballarat so we headed up to Maldon for a trip down memory lane. From the late 70's until the late 90's I was a volunteer worker and for a short stint of 2 years, a Director of the Castlemaine and Maldon Railway (now marketed as the VGR). I spent countless hours, days, months on loco overhaul, track maintenance, etc so to go back and ride the rails from Maldon to Castlemaine (and back) was something very special. I went first into the engine shed and my favourite J549 was in a million bits having a major but they hope it will back on track in a couple of months. I booked 2 return First Class seats in the Tambo which has a rear viewing platform, great for the trip to Castlemaine because it was at the rear of the train but not so good for the return trip as it was directly behind the tender of K190 and with the car door open, those sitting close really enjoyed the coal and smoke Peter

RMweb Premium Peter Beckett Posted May 26, 2013 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 26, 2013 K190. on loan to the VGR. I believe this loco will soon be returning to home base, hence the need to get J549 on the road again so as to have 2 steam locos available Peter
