SimonME46
A question for the livery experts. In Backtrack, March 2013, page 160 there is a Gavin Morrison photo of 60082 Neil Gow at Carlisle. In the background are what appear to me to be 2 L&Y coaches in rather worn L&Y livery. Strikes me as odd for 1960. Does this suggest I could reasonably have such coaches at Bradford in 1954 in the L&Y livery?
Nick Holliday
Sadly I would suggest that the coaches concerned are LMS non-corridors. The L&YR livery is pure coincidence - they are painted in standard BR maroon, but the strong sun is shining from behind the cameraman and as a result there is a deep shadow cast by the platform canopy which coincides with the underside of the carriage windows, which certainly ends up looking like the L&YR maroon and tan livery. At the far end of the two coaches, the hut on the platform has cast a higher shadow, spoiling the effect.
SimonME46
Hi Nick Wow-now that you point that put, it s indeed plainly obvious that it is indeed a shadow! Cheers Simon
