S&DJR Black Fives

Hi all,

 

I'm toying with the idea of making a ('O'gauge) David Andrews Black 5 kit - ideally of one that ran on the S&DJR.

 

…But which one… - there are 5 types listed here (http://www.locomotivekits.com/pricelist.pdf).

 

I believe that most/all ran with 1B tenders.

 

Any help gratefully received.

What I really meant to ask is which of the 5 types listed:

Now then, that's quite a big ask, as boilers, and tenders used to be swapped around, you need info that gives which had what at the period that suits. I must admit I haven't seen the new(ish) series by Irwell Press on the Black 5's, and whether it gives the required info, at about £100, or so, for the three, I've got to keep saving the pennies.

As ever, it's study the published photos I'm afraid.  The S&D allocated ones (44826/30/39, 44917 and 45440) were all transferred away by mid 1958, so it depends upon your modelling period.  After that the photos suggest their appearance was sporadic with no regular appearance by any one loco. Of course, the photographers didn't capture everything, and in those days were mostly out at the weekends !
