inner city plan help

should be doable - obviously need to work out the door ( opens outwards I'm guessing ) and whether you need lift out or duck under to get in. Internally I'm guessing after insulating you've got 7'6 square to work with?

I think the reccomendation would always to use insulation - I think more for your comfort as anything but you've also got scenery, wiring and the like to consider. With or without insulation the inside is smaller than 8x8 I believe ( and needs measuring before any track plans can be put together ).

There are many threads on RMweb, many websites, many plan books to have a browse through. Planning is the fun bit!  Also, a touch of basic, common courtesy might be a bit useful in your endevours too. It's not a dig, but simple things get the best results.

I wish you luck,
Sam.

the story behind the creation of this layout is that i have recently purchased a class 91 and class 92 (both currently undergoing improvements) to add to my collection and i have dicided to create a layout to cater to my growing collection of mainline locos (britannia, class 37, duchess class and a DB v200)

Hi Adam,

you could check out some plans by Paul Lunn, I'm sure he's done a plan for a inner city network southeast layout in the peco setrack plan book. I thinks it's 8ft x 6ft but I'm sure it could be adapted. If I had the room I'd like to build it!

Good luck

Steve

I think you are going to struggle to get what you want (who doesn't!).  A six coach 225 is going to be what .. just under 6 feet long?  So your longest side is only just over a foot longer than your longest train.  Add in point work and you have no fiddle yard.

OK what about something like this

post-16793-0-84201200-1370952589_thumb.jpg

The station is a half and half arrangement ie you can only see half the train when it is in the station.  It has two through roads and two terminating platforms.  The through roads then lead to your storage yard.  The other direction gives some space for modelling before another scenic break into the yard area.  The longest train is a six coach HST.  You could also have four car DMUs into the terminus platforms at the station.

It's 7' 6" square minimum 2nd radius all Peco streamline points.  The longest storage road is 6'

Nice plan - I was thinking circular might be the key - so not far off my thoughts. 3ft radius (giving 6ft diameter) is fine in OO with sufficient tolerance for tighter on points. Could do the station on 1/3, fiddle yard on 1/3 and station throat on the remaining pairs of 1/6. I make 6ft diameter as 19ft run so you'd have 6ft for the platforms and station ( potentially longer if you widen the curve a bit.

just a quicky i might have the run of the loft it is 8x16 any ideas for this?

Hi Adam,

Lofts are awesome! (although I'm biased... ;) )

Checkout Appleford (link in my sig) and read through the thread - you'll see loads of plans that I've come up with and thrown away that might give you some thoughts, including some other layout threads that are in lofts from different eras.

Do you have any ideas yet? If you do, post them on here and people will be happy to help.

Thanks to the excellent advice on RMWeb, I've gone through the following various iterations:

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/53377-modern-depotcommuter-station-in-00/

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/57099-blockwall-junction/

and I've picked up loads of advice along the way:

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/57703-loco-run-round-in-modern-freight-yards/

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/62897-how-far-can-i-take-modellers-license-before-it-starts-to-get-stupid/

I would suggest that you research your areas of interest, ask questions in the various topics and publish some track plans - even if you don't like them, it gives us all a fighting chance to help you!

Hope that's of some use,

Matt
