Not the greatest of quality - apologies - but a couple of shots I've dug out from the archives.

An unidentified Class 37 at Aviemore with ZBA Rudd wagon, August 1990:

Took me a minute to place that, as that dummy is no longer there. If I've got it right, that's departing from the Up reception in the Down direction and the Peak is sat on no.2 in the Up Yard.

If I'm wrong, that's a worry!

Correct first time Jo! I was lucky enough to work trains down Westbury way in the last year or so of the semaphores, it was quite a sight when you took it all in. Like a fool though I never took any photos of them, despite having a new camera with me most days, too busy enjoying driving 47s and 50s really.

DRS 37409 'Lord Hinton' leads 5Z01, 11.00 Carnforth D&U GL to Derby RTC (Network Rail), through Brighouse on 2nd February 2020 with 37424 'Avro Vulcan XH558' bringing up the rear.

Unfortunately the 'coming towards you shot' was blocked by a late running 6M51, Doncaster Down Decoy to Liverpool Biomass Terminal.  It happens. :banghead:

That's a rather nice paint job.

Who would have thought after the culling of the old locomotives when EWS ordered the 66s that there would be mainline certified class 37s still in daily use some 20 years later and that they would be regularly receiving new coats of paint and TLC by their owners.

I guess they must fill a niche that new locos aren't so good at but there isn't so much demand for it to be worth building new ones. Is there anything else quite as suitable for those occasions a not very heavy train is required that can go over such a high proportion of the network?

50 + year old loco's ....But still don't look out of place in today's railway .... Obviously we still need them.

Thumbs up to the team that have returned them to this condition.... Stunning

37607 looking rather sad for its self at Barrow Hill today.

20200217_143954.jpg

Thanks for posting this photo. It's excellent. It looks as though 607 has had it's right hand wipac light removed. It's been at Barrow Hill for several months and I did read that it and 37612 have worn wheelsets. So I'm wondering if the wipac light has possibly been donated to 37610 or 37612 which are the other HNRC owned 37s. I'm also now wondering if 37607 will work on the mainline again. Maybe if their is a requirement for 37607 to be operational on the mainline again HNRC may buy some spares off of DRS to repair and return it to service. If their isn't a requirement for 37607 to return to service this may mean it's now a spares donor to keep 37610 & 37612 going.
