My money is on this being 37076. It is an RSH machine, which means it is 37069 to 37095, very few of them still had round buffers at no 2 end by this time and by the time you exclude large logo locos, centre headcode rebuilds and 37093 which had modified central grilles you are left with 37076.

A minor detour on my way home from work a couple of days ago.

1Q18 (I think) Blackpool-Derby via Preston/Blackburn/Hellifield/Carnforth/Morecambe/retrace to Blackburn/Bolton/Brindle Heath/retrace to Blackburn/Farington/Crewe/Derby (phew!)

Caught during a break at Hellifield (pics taken from private land with permission).

37407 "Blackpool Tower" on the rear - at the time - later seen leading past my house about 5 hours later)

1q18a.jpg.398749a89a4f5d6877b8989abbc12c27.jpg

Notice the newer painted roof panels.

The main object of the recon wasn't really the 37's but this:

975091 MENTOR.

On the sharp end at the time was 37423 "Spirit of the Lakes"

1q18d.jpg.7a8c77ecf0186885c477b4041756ce53.jpg

Complete with added vegetation.

37423 is currently on my workbench awaiting decals and reapplication of the nameplate after a partial respray of the sides. I may try to replicate the shrubbery!

A couple of portraits of 37/4s at a rainy Glasgow Queen Street sometime in the early 1990s.

37401 at the head of a train bound for either Oban or Fort William.

After 37401's departure, 37403 followed it along the platform and is seen waiting for the signal.

A very clean 37193 approaches Theale with empty HAA wagons on the first day of July, 1987. I don't know which train this was as there were two possible candidates that could be seen at this location at that time. It's either come from Westbury cement works or Padworth sidings. From observations at the time, the Westbury working was usually longer than this and the Padworth working shorter.

That is a tough one, it is hard to tell from the photo if it is an RSH or Vulcan machine even.

Is it just me or is there something rather surreal about that loco, (what I assume is a support coach or needing something for a brake) and Mk 3s, with that variety of liveries?

It is a weird mix of liveries. TBH, the ex-GA Mk3s are a bit grubby on the outside.

The BFK is a staff coach and is also usable for bikes I believe.

(One of the compartments in the BFK was occupied with ORR staff yesterday.)

The second of the first day's Skipton-Appleby service on July 20th approaching Blea Moor tunnel, accelerating away from the speed restriction over Ribblehead viaduct. (Nice sound!)

There's something almost model-like about that second picture.

Over the years many of us would have made the long trek from Swansea High St to Swansea East Docks stabling point. 37178 is at the head of a line of her classmates, some with brake vans on a quiet January 23rd 1977. After the weekend these locos would be back on the coal trains to and from Swansea docks. All been history since the mid/ late 80s sadly but the memories of this atmospheric stabling point will never fade!
