Thanks for taking the whole train. 975091 is getting old, built in 1955 and converted to this use in 1973 as Mentor.

Yes, when I was looking up the details before I posted I noticed the longevity of 975091 and thought that it's probably now one of the oldest vehicles on the network that sees pretty much almost daily service.

Going O/T a bit - apologies

975091 has been rebuilt that many times, it's almost a "Trigger's Broom" now!

The last one was a very heavy rebuild in (I think) 2016.

The Mk1 is ideal for this use as various holes can be chopped without affecting the structural integrity of the body too much.

IIRC, 977993 - the Mk3 OLE coach in the NMT rake has large strengtheners inside to compensate for part of the roof being removed.

The UTU vehicles are ex-Mk1 EMUs (admittedly late build Mk1 structures) with a substantial underframe - the can hang water tanks off them.

They'll be around for some time as well.

I was awaiting the return leg to pass my house later - but apparently failed at Carnforth with a brake fault.

I think these are the Class 755[3] which is a bi-mode multiple unit train built by Stadler Rail

That photo is of it dragging a failed 745 - unfortunately not available in model form. Have a look around the net - Flickr for example - there will be photos of it dragging something which is available.

I did catch the "northbound" leg earlier and readied myself on a bridge to get roof pics of the yellow stuff. Cock up on the camera operator front - I didn't get any - however, I got some detail via a video from my little point and shoot for  video.

What's the reliability of the 745/755s been like lately?

They're pretty good to be fair, odd failures but generally settled down to be reliable. Multi testing is still going on most days and new versions of software are also being tested so again, ironing out niggles.

Thanks for the feedback Dave. Like most new things they've taken a little bit of time the "bed themselves in", but now they have lets hope they can deliver the service they were built for.

The seats don't get anymore comfortable and the ride seems to get worse!

If you sit over the bogie there is a lot of noise,  not a patch on what they replaced I hate them
