A very clean 37193 approaches Theale with empty HAA wagons on the first day of July, 1987. I don't know which train this was as there were two possible candidates that could be seen at this location at that time. It's either come from Westbury cement works or Padworth sidings. From observations at the time, the Westbury working was usually longer than this and the Padworth working shorter.

Bit of a late reply, but I lived down that way in 1987, and I think Padworth was HBA/HEAs rather than HAAs

I was one of the drivers back then. I seem to remember about that time it became quite a long job

37407 "Blackpool Tower" has replaced 37521 on the Skipton-Appleby  "Staycation Express". (521 failed on the northbound ECS the previous day).

It may possibly be on the service for today only, but we shall see what happens later this evening/tomorrow morning

Here it is on the rear of the southbound at Settle - 1Z42 - 3 August 2020

Followed by a spirited departure northbound about 90 minutes later on 1Z43.

Apparently 37521 is fixed and replacing 37407 but with a twist  as 37521 has 20107 for company.... cue the froth fest if they leave both of them on the front...

This is 37521 leading 20107 north on 3/8/20 (Not the best pic, but I was pushing for time/location).

It paused momentarily at signal DS9 at Langho. When they set off the 20 sounded well. (Goes to look for a 20 pic thread...)

The 20 is only for rescue purposes.

The length of the 47/stock/20/37 allegedly will not fit well in the platforms at Skipton.

I did the Yorkshire 3 peaks yesterday and through pure fluke of timings was right by the end of Ribblehead viaduct when 37521 came through on the end of the first return train from Appleby. So glad I managed to see this before 47712 takes over.20200809_174540.jpg.5b79c260955ac25ee5124cb0cbbe009c.jpg

On a refreshingly cool morning in this part of West Yorkshire, albeit a bit overcast, West Coast Railway Company's 37706 and 37668 lead the diesel portion of the Scarborough Spa Express across Thornhill LNW Junction at Ravensthorpe.

I didn’t see the WCRC 37s this morning as they were far too early for me to be up, but they woke me up with lots of EE thrash. Excellent.

Agreed.  I regretted not videoing the pair at Thornhill LNW Junction this morning as well as taking the photo.

In 1986 Barmouth Bridge reopened to loco hauled trains, the first service was well publicised and attracted plenty of media attention, including a film crew in  low flying helicopter.  Glad I was using my still camera as the chopper would have ruined the sound for my cine camera.

37667 approaching Settle on 7 Sep 2020 with it's first fare Staycation Express paying passengers in tow.

Note the indent to the left of the headlight where the DRS multi connector has been removed.

And making a suitable departure a few minutes later.

37219 dashes through Pulborough with the 09:31 Woking Up Yard - Woking Up Yard via Littlehampton. 9th September. Presumably carrying out some track recording in preparation for future engineering works. This is the first time I have seen a 37 here.

One of our own doing the honours here - @russ p - unfortunately checked by the random red* at EN8167 signal so had to ease off, but a nice pair of exhaust fumes appearing as power is re-applied after the signal has cleared.

* EN8167 will randomly stay at red, even though there are no trains between it and the next stop signal (EN8173, which is just visible along with it's repeater in the distance of the second photo) - I think this is to do with the Hargham Road AHB controls and is probably connected with (the absence of) a non-stop train marker against the schedule - but that's an educated guess.
