Ressaldar
I am converting a JLTRT H33 Restaurant coach into the S&T Inspection saloon KDW150266. To date have only found 3/4 elevation photographs, with all but one, from the same (water tank pipe filler) end. I know that the original coach is preserved on the East Lancs Railway, I have made numerous requests to them via phone, email and snail mail, to visit the carriage shed to survey the vehicle, but to date, have had no response to those requests. Therefore any side/end drawings would be a great help as there are a number of door/window alterations to be made and it is difficult to scale off of oblique photographs to get the correct dimensions. If anybody has any information, it would be gratefully received. regards Mike
MarkAustin
Have you considered using the free Gimp software to re-jig the photograph to give a square-on image. Here's http://www.templot.com/martweb/info_files/gimp_example.htm an example of how it was used to get a side-on image of a covered goods wagon. The Gimp is free, but as it's a Linux program it's a bit odd for Windows users. the home page is here: http://www.gimp.org/
Ressaldar
Hi Mark, many thanks for the heads-up on the software, I shall give it a go - even though I have Windows. I have almost finished my current project, a 121 conversion to Departmental use, and the idea is that it will form the towing/propulsion for the Inspection saloon, so I want to get all of the Inspection saloon dimensions ready and to hand as soon as possible. I'll keep you posted. cheers Mike

The most recent versions allow you to dock them all so that everything is in one window if that's how you want it.
Ressaldar
I downloaded the Windows version yesterday and I am putting my toe in the water, it certainly concentrates the mind and helps me forget the shingles problems that I have at the moment! cheers Mike
Dmudriver
Hi Mike. I've found this thread from your other about the 121!! I've found these 2 pics today at the club of the inspection saloon. Are they ones you already have? The inspection saloon is operational at the East Lancs - in fact our club are hiring it next month for a day out. I'll PM you with a contact name. Ressaldar
I have now received the missing axlebox keeper plates, so I have made a start and put the bogies together if you look carefully, you can see the 0.7mm holes drilled for the springing arrangement assembled bar the keeper plates all now complete with keeper plates and stretcher wires close up showing the replacement pins for connecting the dampers underside close up showing springing arrangement. The marks on the underside of the axleboxes are reference marks as each box was cleaned up for that W iron. Hopefully a start on the chassis tomorrow and thoughts on an alternative body/chassis fixing arrangement as the JLTRT arrangement would be seen through the additional windows that will be fitted in the ends. cheers Mike
Ressaldar
My cunning plan for the 'alternative' body/chassis fixing seems to have worked out ok a plate, shaped to fit inside the end and drilled and tapped 12BA without interference to anything else I did not have any shorter bolts at the time, but supplies have now been obtained and I have at last been able to obtain photos and get a 'survey' carried out on the coach while it rests inside the carriage shed at Bury, which has allowed me to mark out and form the aperture for the end windows ready to receive a 20 thou plasticard strip at the back, to be fitted flush with the aperture to form the cill/head for the window frame to be fitted. I have also marked out and cut the sides to receive and then fitted the new single doors and then filled in the redundant windows. I fitted the glazing to these windows and drilled each one a couple of times so that the filler could go through and have a hold of the inside. The filler has been left overnight and will be sanded down and another layer applied to cover the shrinkage that has occurred. Hopefully will be able to complete the end window frames today and when the filler has dried on the sides, cut out for the new window on the kitchen side. cheers Mike
Ressaldar
After various bouts of loss of mojo coupled with 'something else better coming along', I have now completed this project going from this to the finished model the Guards side the corridor side waterpipe end close up showing the 'wing mirrors' and grab handle the 'tell tale' end taken before the fitting of the wing mirrors and grab handle. Paint is JLTRT rattle can with three coats of Johnson's Klear over then transfers from Precision Decals and lining by HMRS Pressfix, followed by a further three coats of Johnson's Klear. Now that this is finished, I can turn my attention to completing a similar BR conversion of an ex LMS Kitchen Car into a Diag 1/551 Inspection Saloon using two Sidelines body kits and one chassis and cut and shuffled - easier in brass than the resin of the H33 kit. regards Mike 3
