RMweb Gold 4630 Posted October 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2019 (edited) To break a long journey on 26th September I decided to called in at Westbury to see what was going on. DB Cargo 66065 was pottering around with a few wagons... ... and Colas 66850 was shuffling about... ...and then headed towards the yard passing 59104 as it drew in with 6L21, 13.44 Whatley Quarry to Dagenham Dock ARC. RMweb Gold 4630 Posted October 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2019 (edited) A pleasant few hours at Eastleigh on 27th September 2019, in weather that alternated between bright autumn sunshine one minute and monsoon like rain the next, produced a variety of freight operators class 66s. After seeing DBC 66065 at Westbury the previous day, it was stabled in the sidings adjacent to Eastleigh station less than 24 hours later, having arrived as 0N75, 19.49 Westbury Down TC to Eastleigh East Yard. Still wearing the EWS livery, DBC 66076 pauses with 6M48, 10.34 Southampton Eastern Docks to Halewood ( Jaguar Cars). Recently repainted into the current DBC livery, 66077 arrives with 4O43, Wakefield Europort to Southampton Western Docks Berth 109. Also recently repainted, this time into the corporate livery of Maritime and named 'Maritime Six', DBC 66090 passes through with 4M71, 09.47 Southampton Western Docks Berth 109 to Birch Coppice Exchange Sidings. Freightliner 66539 pauses for a crew change with 4O05, 07.19 Birch Coppice Freightliner to Southampton Maritime Container Terminal. A fair few miles away from its namesake, GBRf 66724 'Drax Power Station' idles away during a heavy shower waiting to depart with 6Z40, 10.35 Eastleigh East Yard to Westbury Down TC. Another Maritime liveried locomotive, this time GBRf 66727 'Maritime One', stabled at Eastleigh. Playing away from home, GBRf 66735 'Peterborough United' passes by with 4O23, 03.11 Trafford Park Euro Terminal GBRf to Southampton Western Docks (GBRf). The following day, approaching Mount Pleasant level crossing at Northam, Freightliner 66503 'The Railway Magazine' with 4O27, 05.21 Garston FLT* to Southampton Maritime Container Terminal. * but looks to have started from Crewe Basford Hall. Someone somewhere was asking about those, although I'm now wondering if it was on this forum ... :-)

RMweb Gold 4630 Posted October 6, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 6, 2019 Waiting at Wigan North Western on 5th October for my train, after going to the Wigan show, DBC 66137 rushed through with 4S49, 11.18 Daventry to Grangemouth.
Steadfast
The weathering on 66137 in that last pic looks like someone has repainted a Bachmann GBRf 66 but couldn't be bothered to repaint the bit between the headlights and left it in GB orange. Seen repaints like that for sale a few times... Jo
Owd Bob
7-10-'19. 66 188. 2.18pm. It's been a few weeks since i've seen this Tee's Yard to Knowsley pass through Daisy Hill Station, so even though it was chilly & damp weather for going out or standing around in a ploughed field, i did just that.

Probably also accentuated by the wetness on the front of the loco. The paintwork has stood up pretty well as 66615 is getting on for 16 years old. Steadfast
The Freightliner 66s are going through cab refurb at the moment. Presumably 615 has yet to be done. Quite a few of the Freightliner 66s have the rusty tears look down the front end Jo
Alcanman
DB Cargo 66118 at Newsham, Northumberland with this afternoon's 14:34 North Blyth - Tees Yard. The coal is destined for Tata Steel in South Wales. There appears to have been an upturn in coal traffic on the Blyth & Tyne in recent weeks. This train, in addition to running weekly on Wednesdays, has also run on Mondays and Fridays recently. Also, GBRf coal trains have also returned to the B&T after a long absence.

Alcanman
Seeing the photo of GBRf 66778 reminded me that it was time to revisit Cambois. Although there has been an upsurge in coal traffic recently I'm not sure how long this will last. I did manage to catch 2 coal trains this afternoon. Firstly, EWS/DBC 66139 passing Freeman's Crossing near Cambois with 14:34 North Blyth - Tees North Yard. Second photo, GBRf 66784 'Keighley & Worth Valley Railway' with 4N80 Doncaster Down Decoy - North Blyth coal empties
