Midland Mark 3s on the way to Newport today..... Unsure what their future is?

As Jack says, for scrapping at Sims. I saw them at Stenson:

GBRf 66731 - 5Z98 ECS, Stenson

Just before, DB 66160 on 6M96 Margam TC to Corby BSC loaded coils, mostly BZA and JSA wagons:

DB 66160 - 6M96 Steel, Stenson

And 4F62 again, this time a stone's throw from home at Swarkestone.

GBRf 66766 - 4F62 Containers, Swarkestone

Thanks,

Jack.

On 1st December 2020, GBRf 66742 'ABP Port of Immingham Centenary 1912-2012' approaching Brighouse with 6E09, 07.11 Liverpool Biomass Terminal to Drax Power Station, loaded biomass hoppers.

Drax PS must be working at pretty much maximum capacity at the moment I would imagine, as recently all the daily booked workings - six loaded workings and corresponding returns - have been running from Liverpool.  And a quick check of the schedule shows at least three daily workings from Tyne to Drax too.

DB Cargo 66197 hurries through Brighouse with an empty 'binliner' working as 6M16, 05.40 Wilton EFW Terminal to Knowsley Freight Terminal.

God help you if you have to couple it to another 66 with the same buffers!

when I picked it up from longport it took us nearly 20 minutes to get the shackle over the hook when trying to couple to 66791!

just passed 66791 in Doncaster as it happens

Just like using 3 links at an exhibition!

One from tonight

Tytherington take two

With cold fog building by the minute, here's the second 6Z31 from Westbury to Tytherington, ready to go in the Up Yard with class 66 pioneer 66001 at the helm. In it's 22 years, this loco has been repainted from EWS maroon to DB red (originally with Schenker branding before being updated to 'large logo') and modified with tripcock equipment, used when DB used to operate the RHTT that covers the London Underground lines around Marylebone. This is the extra pipework above the coupling. In addition, this and 66002 both lack the swing head buckeye couplings that the rest of the DB fleet carry. The first running of 6Z31 last Wednesday can be seen here

The first one

Ready to go in the Up Yard at Westbury, 66044 is at the head of 6Z31, the first train to Tytherington after weeks of road learning by DB Cargo's Wiltshire Hub drivers. The blue VTG JNAs would be loaded with stone for offload at the DB terminal at Cricklewood in London. A quick grab shot, but worth recording for posterity.

The link to Flickr auto displayed the photo of last week's train, so I've added that caption too.

Can't believe the Heathrow units are off for scrap Rob, they still look modern!

Here's another from last night.

Foggy Fareham

A cold December fog has descended over Westbury Down Yard during the night. At one point visibility was only about 70 or 80 metres which made things fun! 66601 is sat on top of 7O35 for Fareham.

Nice bit of window frame use there Nidge @Rugd1022.

One thing your photo of 66603 does show is how little care has gone into the placement of the zero injuries stickers. Those locos with a yellow square by the window have had the sticker put over the top, instead of directly above it. There's room to do so, but I guess someone decided yellow and white text over a yellow square was ok! Second man's side on the small cab, it could go under the yellow square, or above the grill next to the overhead wire sticker.

It's funny but those 'zero injury' stickers are everywhere now s we tend not to notice them, it's a bit like having too much roadside furniture, it just becomes background fuzz after a while and becomes counter productive.

The cab window frame shot just presented itself once I'd come to a stand after setting the wagons back, just in the right spot ;).

I've seen a few that have alternative words written over 'injuries' in the cab! The little things make me chuckle!

Whilst the world and his dog were up in the murky Midlands taking pictures of the "New Blue Pullman", I was at Southampton Maritime Container Terminal in the sunshine.

It wasn’t murky in the afternoon at Comberford (Tamworth)...even got a shed as well...not from Southampton (wouldn’t that have been a good link!) but working to Crewe Basford Hall from Felixstowe. This turn was a double class 86 regular until very recently:

The froth express (it did look and sound superb) passed shortly after...

It's almost exactly six years since the contract for the Lindsey Oil Refinery - Preston Docks bitumen tank workings moved from DB Cargo to Colas Rail Freight.

Colas operated the service initially using its class 60s, until they were sold on, but for the last few years double-headed class 56s or a solo class 70 have been the booked traction.  Only on a very few occasions in the early days did Colas use one of their class 66s.

So it was a bit of a surprise when a DB Cargo 66 turned up on 14th December 2020.  Here is 66027 passing through Brighouse with 6E32, 10.05 Colas Ribble Rail to Lindsey Oil Refinery.

I'm assuming todays working was a 'hire-in' due to non-availability of the usual Colas traction and/or crew.  It's not the first time that a DB Cargo locomotive has been substituted, but probably less than a handful of times over the past 6 years.

On 15th December 2020, DB Cargo 66013 accelerates away from a signal stop on the approach to Brighouse with empty ‘bin liner’ containers working 6M16, 05.43 Wilton EFW Terminal to Knowsley Freight Terminal.
