Class 66 photos

Recommended Posts

Must be my birthday as i've now seen a class 66 in another colour other than a shade of Red. :) 2.04pm Wilton -Knowsley at Crow Nest Junc' Hindley. Despite the heavy rain 66 162 looked really stunning in what looked like a new coat of Maritime Blue.

I worked into Toton five times last week, it's quite depressing taking the long walk from Meadow Sidings to the north end with so many redundant locos lined up. The odd rumble of a 60 being used for shunting the North Yard brightens the day though!

i sat there for 2 hours earlier as the signaller wouldn't let me depart early light loco to doncaster, had me away on time only to hold me at trowell for a stopper which i should have been in front which knocked me for 15 mins by the time i got to chesterfield!

if your there next week i'm on the tripper on tuesday, you never know after chatting on here for the last 10 years i may actually meet you face to face!

The next day the loco works back to Walsham (I didn't photograph this as I was decorating) and then brings the tanks South

Is that a small extra light on the front of 66783?

Yes, it’s an ex lickey banker loco

all the gubbins are still inside to operate the light and auto uncoupler, don’t know if it’s still in operation though

66783 is ex-66058.

Here's a closeup of the air cylinder in an earlier life.

In the second picture that Phil Mc posted, it looks like the EWS liveried 66 that is next to the DB liveried 66 (still following?) has the horn grille boarded over.

Presumably a non-runner in that condition, or is it a Christmas tree for other units?

8Z80 in Lansdown Siding Cheltenham all day yesterday.

From what I can surmise from Realtime, this was the power and 3 MBAs off the 6E80 Tidal to Masboro which had a 4 hour delay early Thurdays a little north of Chelt. 6M94 Margam to Corby and Margam to Round Oak both were delayed by hours behind.

Not sure how it was sorted but the result is 66172 and three wagons headed south a little and are still there waiting for more help....

From what I read elsewhere it was a wagon issue, so presumably a loco came onto the rear of 6E80 and took the crippled wagon off the rear. Could be the third one is was the cripple, with nowhere to split and join the two good ones back up. Could also be the good ones are there to provide brake force

Thanks for the information, are the "elsewhere" details available to all, can I join another forum too and get some local loco information?

Spot on about 66172 being rescue, as the loco has gone today, but 8Z80 still shows up in the siding, how does that work, where is the train ID stored on the wagons?

The train ID (the head code, e.g. 8Z80) will be stored in the Train Describer on the signallers panel/workstation in the signalling control centre/ROC. The train ID will not be displayed physically on the wagons.
