North American Photo Sites

The group is well worth joining, Dave. There's a couple of serious historians active who do a lot of research at local libraries - I'm sure questions on O'Brien's Steel Works would be readily answered by the local cognoscenti!

For me, it's just making me scratch that IAIS / CN itch....

One of my favs is Mark Llanuza's photo stream on Flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/7547061@N02/

Dangerously full of cool modellable stuff new to me (at least it was new to me a few years ago, I'm now a fan of the EJ&J among others)

Llanuza gets plenty of friendly abuse in the comments section for many of his photos - not always the best images technically they still ooze late 70s/early 80s fallen flag diesel nostalgia. Some great stuff chasing the last Milwaukee F units across the countryside.

A big favourite of mine is Bill Gordon's (lowmoor) page on Flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/130647200@N05/ some very classy transition era stuff from the late 50s/ early 60s from B & O, C & O and N & W country, but also lots of logging and industrial steam in its dying days. From dinky little Shays on Logging lines to massive Y6 Mallets on the Norfolk & Western - a fantastic archive.

Whilst bimbling around the web I came across this site that might be good for reference. Whilst not specifically a railroad site, it has good pics of the more everyday side off American life from the 70s up to late 90s...

I think that there will be more pictures uploaded over time.

Enjoy...

Here is one which is new to me, came across it whilst searching Trinity hoppers, http://jeffstrainsite.com/coppermine-industrial/index.php

Here's another plenty of eastern 60's and 70's era roads, I'd forgotten about this site.

And finally one for my favourite shortline, the shortlived Erie Western http://rrslideshow.com/jdemike/v/jdemike/eres/ other roads are featured

Most of the ERES pictures appeared in print https://morningsunbooks.com/collections/all-hardcover/products/erie-western-in-color-br-i-small-available-november-15-2016-small-i

Ah - Morning Sun. Once upon a time, often a combination of great pictures and (IMO) incorrect, badly-written text. Though they have improved quite a bit in recent years.

For some amazing classic pictures, you’d be pushed to beat Richard Leonard’s collections;

I’m not responsible for any “lost” hours!

Another great site is the Centre for Railroad Photography & Art, I found this when looking for C&NW pictures but there’s plenty more great photographers featured;
