johnlambert
I recently spotted this, which I didn't immediately recognise. From the rear I thought it was a Morris Minor van converted to and estate car. It's actually a Renault Dauphinoise, which I'd never heard of before. This Chevrolet Corvette is more familiar. A terrible photo but this Rover 3.5 Litre Saloon (P5B) was absolutely spotless.

Kickstart
German cars can be good, 1970s Mercs, 1980s BMWs, seem to be good. My father an step mother used to have an early BMW 3 series. While the bits you could see were lovely, my father says it was one of the most unreliable cars they have owned. It replaced and Alfasud, and was replaced with an Alfasud Sprint! All the best Katy
RMweb Gold chriswright03 Posted November 6, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 6, 2018 Looking at the photos on the wiki - it looked very like the sports model shown , but had a hard top - I wish I 'd had a camera with me - I'd have put the pic on here - if only to get a definite answer! Are you still using the same mobile phone Jack?
shortliner
No - The one I have fits neatly into a wooden ammo box - the aerial is a nuisance though - it is almost 18 feet long! - nice to hear from you - Jack

Following your mention of Wiki, it was interesting to see the pic of that A40 sports. I'd completely forgotten those - essentially a Jensen built Interceptor body with the 40 bhp Austin engine ( difficult to sustain 60 mph according to Autocar) The real Jensen Interceptor apparently had the Austin Sheerline (undertakers hearse) more powerful engine. The sexy Austin we kids thought was the A90 Atlantic fixed head coupe - with a wind-down rear window that filled the car with exhaust smoke!
BernardTPM
Saw a V reg Mk.IV Cortina estate today (1976 version, rather than Cortina '80); can't think when I last saw one in the wild, though there were still plenty about for exhibition layout transport in the early/mid '90s.

To think that once that was a very expensive bespoke car. Is that the ground you can see through the holes in the boot? Looks like a pile of ferrous oxides in the approximate shape of a Bristol. Rugd1022
Went along to the annual NEC classic-fest today, much drooling, sighing and tea drinking all round, managed to get some semi decent pics despite the crowds and lighting problems, I'll start off with a few of the Italians... Lancia Beta Coupe... Lancia Gamma Coupe... One of three RHD Maserati Khamsins on display, from a total of twenty two produced, two of them were for sale... Maserati Indy, a rare RHD example... Maserati Merak, another rare RHD machine... (Hats off to the Maserati Club for not roping off their prized possessions, unlike the Ferrari mob next door). Rugd1022
A few more photos from yesterday... These Alpine 110s are so pretty (and small)… Nice pair of SMs, still breathtaking in the flesh... My mate was a little mesmerised... Fabulous Series 2 Europa... Ex-press fleet and very early Series 1 2.8litre XJ6... Cracking CX... Tempting early P5B Coupe, the Mulberry leather interior is beautiful... Eye catching Marcos GT, one of the earlier wooden chassied cars... Spent a long time looking at this GT40 replica, quite a well known historic racer... And a real one... Whoosh…
johnlambert
Only a couple of photos from the NEC. A real rarity, a 1963 (I think) FIAT 2300S coupé This one was taken for a friend who was unable to attend, he wanted a picture of a Humber and this Super Snipe Estate was the only one I was able to get. I wish I'd been able to get a picture of the Triumph TR3 belonging to the HERO historic rally organisers. I took that for a spin (not literally) and returned thoroughly impressed by this funny-looking, 60-year old roadster.

Jol Wilkinson
"These Alpine 110s are so pretty (and small)…" Your photos show that, while the Alpine 110s have remained the same size, some of the enthusiast at the exhibition have definitely got bigger. APOLLO
Some lovely cars there. I like the Rover (would say that as I have one !!) What about future classics - OK if they "electronically live" over the coming years. Audi R8 ? - watch this and weep - seems to be a common "defect" on these cars - Vorsprung durch technic my arse !!! 45568
For our Australian readers, I saw this in Augusta, (WA) last week. A Holden HR?? Kingswood station wagon, the vehicle of choice for the Aussie family, (and far preferable to the vile SUVs that have become ubiquitous!!). Looked all original, not bad for 50 years old! Holden experts feel free to fill in more details, Holdens this old are before my time in Oz, (1974). Cheers from Oz, Peter C.

On full rego and in nice condition too. I would suggest it is an HG model (1970-71). My father had a 1970 HT Premier sedan (the model prior to the facelifted HG) in the early 1970s, with a 186 6 cylinder rather than a V8, and it was a nice car to drive although, in retrospect, the rearward vision left a bit to be desired. The only real problem it had was when wear developed in the gear selectors (it had a three speed column shift) and, unless you were precise with your gear change, the lever would stick between 1st and 2nd and the car would be stuck in 1st. The only remedy was to stop and position a steel bar (we kept one under the front seat for this purpose) between the selectors and lever them back until they clicked into position.
