As a one time owner of a Reliant Kitten it niggled me somewhat that the Reliant owners club actively promoted the conversion of the four wheelers using aftermarket bodies but the fur would fly if anyone suggested modifying a three wheeler.

There used to be a tatty matt black Reliant Kitten parked up, never moved for a year or so, near where I get welding gas, gone now tho... I thought it looked rather cool, I would think one of those is somewhat rarer than a 3 wheel Reliant now

was down at a friends garage for a photoshoot with some bikes and lurking at the back of the yard awaiting a full resto was this dolly sprint hope to have more pics as the work progress . and the lovely Holly with the recently completed cooper s

Except in the world of trialling,  where modified 3 wheeler Reliants of one form or another  are still to be seen regularly. ( More so than a Tempest, at least)

I assume he knows the trick for cleaning out the chrome off gassing on the lamp lenses, they just need a bit of a clean up, looking lovely though, car and er....70’s type drapery.

 

Dolly is the same year as ours was, although ours was in Mimosa Yellow......before it went bang, run the mains on the A12 :(

Took the MGB roadster to Stonham Barns (near Stowmarket Classic Car Show on Sunday, a large event with a great variety of classics. Lots of US cars, perhaps a reflection of the number of US air bases in East Anglia. Few original versions of some cars but several examples heavily modified, Ford Escorts, Anglias, Cortinas and Capri's being a good example.

The previous week had been to the Alde Valley Classics show (at Stratford St Andrew, up the A12 towards Lowestoft). A much smaller event but again with a good selection of classics including a couple of Lomax three wheelers at one extreme and a couple of 60's Cadillac at the other. The Citroen Estate just beyond the XK150 (above the boot of my MGB roadster) was up for sale at £30K.

 

I though the older Chevy rather nice.

Two Coopers as were being discussed here the other day.  The one on the left has 275000 on the clock.

 

 

The Island Blue & White Mk2 Cooper is a very well known one, it appeared in John Parnell's wonderful 'Original Cooper & Cooper S' bible and at least two other Mini books, and has been restored twice (so far!). I've seen both of these Mk2s at shows several times and they really are lovely examples.

 

I had a very interesting chat with Steve Burkinshaw at Mallory Park yesterday, he's currently knee deep in restoring Paul McCartney's Radford Cooper S  for the owner Christian Horner in time for the Goodwood Revival, apparently when it was restored in America about twenty years ago the wedling around the Aston Martin DB4 rear lights was bodged quite badly so he's had to refabricate them this time round. Looking forward to the Revival, Steve's invited me to have a proper gander at the Beatle's Minis when I go down on the Friday, rest assured I shall be taking plenty of photos, it's highly unlikely that all three will be seen together in the same place again.

My first “S” was an Island Blue with a White roof......but when we stopped Special Saloons and went to Formula Ford I slipped the Longman inclined valve split Weber race (although changed from a Super Sprint cam to just a Sprint cam for the road) engine we raced the Riley Elf with into my “S”.......gave a few TC Escorts a surprise up the A127 :lol: ...........I fear SYE 487F is now defunct and long gone, no trace at DVLC unfortunately :(

A quick video of some of the cars on one of the open track sessions at Mallory park yesterday, both modern minis and old, have a look at the orange classic in the 2nd bunch of cars, don’t know what engine was in it but it embarrassed a lot of newer cars on its laps, leaving them for dust on the straights!

There is a 4 wheeled reliant local to me fitted with a Saab turbo engine in the middle.

This was my ninth sd1 and i sold it three years ago as I had nowhere to keep it when we were between houses.  Now I have a very clean empty garage with lots of space and it's way too clean to dirty with old cars.   It's around  Shrewsbury somewhere now.

At risk of inflaming a lynch mob, many years ago a mate and I hatched a plot to acquire one of these (rusty ones were dirt cheap back then), and build a slightly deranged, road going kneeler sidecar outfit around its engine. It never actually happened, which was probably fortunate given that our rather less mad mechanical concoctions came quite close to killing us on seemingly a weekly basis. Ah, the immortality of youth :o
