5foot3
I came across a fantastic Irish site showing some unique loco liveries on models and I was curious about the paint schemes as I have never seen them before, anybody more information on them? The website in full can be seen here;- http://irishmodeltrains.webs.com/
108
Hi The colour scheme on 019 was to test various alternatives for the new 201 class locos in the mid 90's. it was applied at Inchicore Works after the loco had been withdrawn. It never ran in service in these colours.

Jawfin
A39 could use a lick of paint like that
John M
That picture of '19 needs to be forwarded to the painter at Downpatrick - A39 could use a lick of paint like that!!! What the photo doesn't show is that only one can and 3/4 of the loco was repainted in the experimental scheme the No2 end remained in the early IE black and tan livery with white striping. 019 was odd in that the loco received an overhaul and re-paint in the IE black tan and white scheme in the early 1990s but never re-entered traffic, she was stored outside Diesel No1 before being used as a guinea pig for the 201 paint scheme. Personally I think A39s plain black livery is the most suitable for these locos oil and muck washed down from the roof is less obvious.
Jawfin
Black's good but I would still prefer that 201 livery even with Black and Tan at one end
jhb171achill
As mentioned, just one part of this loco was painted thus, and one side only! The pic of the C with the yellow end... After green giving way in the early 60s, Black and Tan started to be used on the A and C classes. By the mid 60s many were reprinted in black with yellow ends, then black as per Downpatrick / ITG's A39. Then, after re-engining, the later black'n'tan (lower body side tan strip) became the norm until the "supertrain" livery appeared in 1972.
